In the first NCAA tournament game in program history, Rutgers-Camden surrendered two-run innings in both the second and the third, falling into a 4-0 hole.
The Rams opened the second inning with a single by junior shortstop
Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, NY/Carey). He stole two bases and scored on a double to right-center by senior designated hitter
Daniel Paccione (Commack, NY/Commack). Following a sacrifice, a walk and a fielder's choice, Paccione stole home.
In the third inning, freshman catcher
Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) doubled. Senior leftfielder
Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) followed with a bunt single and raced to second on an infield throwing error, which allowed Johntry to score. One out later, junior centerfielder
Michael Marino (Franklin Square, NY/Carey) had a RBI single.
Blanked over the first three innings by Farmingdale State sophomore
Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, NY/Lynbrook), the Scarlet Raptors finally jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth. Junior first baseman
Connor Hall (Delran, NJ/Delran) doubled to right-center and was sacrificed to third by freshman leftfielder
Doug Carter (Union, NJ/Union). Freshman catcher
Jon Theckston (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) followed with a run-scoring ground out.
The Raptors added their other run in the sixth when Hall opened the frame with a home run. It was his eighth homer of the season, one shy of the program record.
Junior
Ron Reagan (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) worked the first 7-2/3 innings for the Scarlet Raptors, allowing seven hits and four runs, three of them earned. Reagan (7-4) struck out one and walked one.
Wiengarten departed during a jam after 4-2/3 innings, before he became the pitcher of record. He allowed one run and three hits, while walking three, hitting one and striking out four. Senior reliever
Timmy Trimarchi (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) worked out of the two-out, two-on jam and ended up picking up his fourth win of the season in as many decisions. He worked 1-1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run, on the solo homer by Hall.
Senior
Michael Dolce (St. James, NY/St. Anthony's) worked the ninth inning for his second save of the year. He allowed only one walk.
Hall had two hits, one RBI and scored both runs for the Scarlet Raptors. He also had seven putouts at first base, hiking his season total to 347, a new program record. He broke the mark of 345 set by C.J. Mooney in 2011.
