Freshman Matthew Stoots had a sensational week for the Scarlet Raptors’ baseball team at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational during spring break. In his seven games last week, Stoots started six at third base and also made his collegiate debut as a starting pitcher. He hit .500 (12-for-24), collecting six runs, two doubles and eight RBIs. He had a three-hit game in a win over 17th-ranked Oswego State and had five RBIs in a victory over Trinity (Conn.) College. On the mound, he allowed two earned runs in the three innings against another national power in a loss to Endicott College. For the young season, Stoots is leading the team with a .459 batting average and owns the longest current hitting streak on the Raptors (seven games). He also has captured two honors as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week.
