Sophomore pitcher Brittany Scott made an impressive debut for the Rutgers University-Camden softball team last week. A transfer from the University of New Haven, Scott fired a no-hitter, striking out 16, in her first start for the Scarlet Raptors, a 6-0 victory over John Jay College of Criminal Justice on March 11. It was the 21st no-hitter in program history and she missed a perfect game by only one walk. In the nightcap of that doubleheader, Scott slammed a three-run home run as the Raptors’ designated player. In winning her first three games of the season, Scott didn’t allow an earned run, and she stretched that streak to 20.2 innings before finally allowing an earned run against Western Connecticut State University March 16. She lost that game, 4-3, despite only allowing two earned runs. For the week she went 3-1 with a 0.54 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 26 innings. She allowed only five walks and 13 hits, while holding opponents to a .138 batting average. Offensively, she hit .286, including a pair of three-run home runs.
