After a season-opening 5-2 loss to Cortland State, the top-ranked Division III team in the country, the Scarlet Raptors defeated #7-ranked Johns Hopkins University (11-2) and Stevenson University (14-9). Gerold had multiple-hit games in every contest and finished the weekend leading all Scarlet Raptor regulars with a .636 batting average (7-for-11). He had a .727 slugging percentage and a .692 on-base percentage, collected four runs scored, four RBIs, two walks, one double and one sacrifice. He also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, notching four putouts and six assists, while turning one double play. Gerold went 2-for-4 against Cortland, 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and one walk against Johns Hopkins and 2-for-3 with one double, one run, two RBIs and one walk against Stevenson. During his freshman year in 2017, Gerold led the Scarlet Raptors with 110 assists, tied for the seventh-highest single-season mark in program history.
