Junior Andrew Kustera is enjoying a stellar first year with the Rutgers-Camden track program since transferring from Rowan College at Gloucester County. After earning New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention in the shot put and setting a program record in the shot put (14.13 meters) during indoor season, Kustera has continued his outstanding efforts during the outdoor season. On Friday at the Oscar Moore Open, he collected a pair of ECAC qualifiers and two PR performances as he competed in the shot put, discus and hammer. He finished first of 12 athletes with a 13.78-meter shot put, barely missing his own outdoor program record of 13.91 meters that he set at the Stockton Invitational on March 31. He also finished sixth of 17 in the discus (38.00 meters) and sixth of 12 in the hammer (36.47 meters), notching his Rutgers-Camden PR in both events. His discus and shot put distances were both ECAC qualifiers. He has earned ECAC qualifiers in the shot put at all three of the Raptors’ spring invitationals so far. During his two-year junior college career at RCGC, Kustera placed at the NJCAA outdoor nationals both seasons in all three events.
