Freshman Kate O’Connor had quite a busy and successful weekend at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday and Sunday at The College of New Jersey. O’Connor competed in more events than any other Scarlet Raptor as she broke her own program record in the heptathlon and also ran a leg on the women’s 4x100 relay team, which finished fourth of eight. O’Connor not only set her PR in the 4x100 (51.72), but established a new PR in every heptathlon event except the 200-meter dash. During Saturday’s action, she finished third of eight in the heptathlon’s high jump (1.42 meters), third of nine in the shot put (8.38 meters), fifth of nine in the 200-meter dash (28.60) and fifth of nine in the 100 High Hurdles (17.53). On Sunday, she was first of nine in the javelin (30.75 meters), second of nine in the long jump (4.72 meters) and sixth of nine in the 800-meter run (2:50.50), in addition to running on the Raptors’ 4x100 team. Her javelin throw beat the ECAC qualifying standard of 30.46 meters. Overall, in only her second time competing in the heptathlon, O’Connor finished fourth of nine athletes, while rolling up 3,514 points. She broke her old program heptathlon mark of 3,150 points, set during her first attempt at the event on April 13-14 at the Osprey Open.
