There’s a reason that Ian Scheidemann was a D3baseball.com All-American and the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year last season, and the Rutgers-Camden senior ace displayed his talents this past week during the Scarlet Raptors’ spring break trip to Florida. In two appearances, covering 10-2/3 shutout innings, Scheidemann allowed only six hits and no walks, while striking out 13. He made his first relief appearance, covering 1-2/3 innings, in a 12-inning game against Ripon College March 18, allowing two hits and striking out two. In his start against Benedictine University on March 21, Scheidemann hurled a four-hit shutout, striking out 11, to post a 1-0 victory. The shutout was the third of his three-year Rutgers-Camden pitching career, tying a program career mark. Scheidemann, who pitched as a freshman at Salisbury University, also owns nine complete games, a 2.04 ERA and a 14-4 career mark at Rutgers-Camden. This season he is 2-0 with a 1.14 ERA in 23-2/3 innings, while holding opponents to a .193 batting average.
