Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Byrnes led the Rutgers-Camden softball team to a 4-2 record last week with her dual talents on the mound and at the plate. Byrnes made five appearances on the mound, covering four starts and 31 innings, while posting a 3-0 record and a 1.13 ERA last week. She struck out 20 and walked seven. She hurled a four-hit 2-1 victory over Stockton University April 16 and won both ends of a doubleheader at William Paterson University on Saturday, pitching a pair of complete games. She also threw six relief innings, allowing only one hit and one run, in the nightcap of the Stockton doubleheader and hurled four shutout innings against Catholic University April 17. At the plate, Byrnes hit .400 (8-for-20) in six games, scoring one run and driving home three. She also reached base once as a hit batsman and once on a walk. A first-year Rutgers-Camden student-athlete who played as a freshman at conference rival William Paterson, Byrnes has hurled a team-high 125 innings, posting a 7-11 record with a 1.79 ERA this season. She also is the Scarlet Raptors’ leading hitter, batting .354, while adding four runs and seven RBIs.
