Junior Rob Scanlan had a stellar performance Sunday as the Rutgers-Camden baseball team swept a doubleheader against SUNY-Oneonta to raise its early-season record to 3-1. Scanlan went 5-for-6 with a double, one run and two RBIs, while collecting four putouts in as many chances in right field. Scanlan added one sacrifice, reached base as a hit batsman and was successful in both of his stolen base attempts. In the Raptors’ 6-5, eight-inning win in the opener, his third-inning leadoff double broke up a brief no-hitter by Oneonta’s starting pitcher. He added a fourth-inning RBI single that gave the Raptors a 2-1 lead and followed with a stolen base. In the sixth inning, he singled, stole second base and scored a run, while he contributed a sacrifice to the winning eighth-inning rally. In the nightcap, Scanlan went 2-for-3 and also was hit by a pitch, reaching base in three of his four plate appearances. His first-inning single contributed to a four-run frame that put the Raptors ahead to stay in an eventual 9-4 victory. His HBP in the sixth inning forced home a run during a four-run frame that put the game away. Through the first four games of the season, Scanlan leads the Raptors with a .545 batting average and a .636 slugging percentage. He also has a .600 on-base percentage (second on the team), four runs and three RBIs.
