Junior center back Breana Winder is one of the big cogs in the tenacious defense that has seen the Rutgers-Camden women’s soccer team post three shutout victories to open the season. Winder and fellow juniors Sophia Spadano and Lindsey Rucci have teamed with freshman back India Barnes and the freshman goalkeeping tandem of Chloe Beasley and Kayla McKeever to record the longest season-opening shutout streak since the 2004 team opened with five shutouts. The Raptors’ 3-0 start is their first since 2006 and the first time the program has ever been 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The previous top NJAC starts were 2-1 in both 2003 and 2006. In victories over New Jersey City University (2-0) and Stockton University (1-0) last week, the defense limited its opponents to seven total shots. The victory over Stockton was only the second ever for Rutgers-Camden and the first since 2003. Winder has been a huge part of the Scarlet Raptors’ success during her career, earning NJAC Second Team and NJAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2018 and adding NJAC Honorable Mention in 2019.
