Sophomore forward Cameron Downs earns his second Raptor of the Week honor in three weeks after averaging 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two New Jersey Athletic Conference games for the men’s basketball team last week. Downs scored 19 points and had six rebounds in a 64-61 win over Stockton University Wednesday, snapping a 30-game losing streak against the Ospreys that dated back to the last Rutgers-Camden win in the series on Feb. 13, 2008. On Saturday, Downs scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, while hiking his career scoring total to 501 points, in a narrow 72-70 loss to Montclair State University. Downs is averaging 18.7 points and 5.9 rebounds this season for the Scarlet Raptors. He previously earned the Raptor of the Week honor on Nov. 20 this season. Last year, Downs was named the Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week on three occasions on his way to being named a three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week, the NJAC Rookie of the Year and an All-NJAC Honorable Mention player.
