Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Freshman southpaw Sammie Friel had a sensational week for the Rutgers-Camden softball team, winning a pair of 1-0 shutouts in her two starts. Friel worked 14 innings, allowing only five hits and four walks, while striking out 10 in victories over TCNJ and Kean. In the TCNJ game on Tuesday, Friel allowed four hits and two walks, while fanning three. Against Kean on Saturday, she took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before a one-out double broke gave the Cougars their only hit. She walked two and struck out seven. For the season, Friel owns a 7-4 record and a 2.22 ERA with team highs of four shutouts, 72.2 innings and 66 strikeouts. She also has one save. She has appeared in 13 games, making 12 starts.
