Senior designated hitter Jack Murphy had an outstanding week at the plate for the Rutgers-Camden baseball team, while adding a pair of significant career milestones along the way. Murphy, who also has pitched and played first base during his Rutgers-Camden career, hit .467 (7-for-15) in the Scarlet Raptors’ five games, including two doubles, his first career triple, two runs scored, five RBIs, three walks and one HBP. He had a .733 slugging percentage and a .579 on-base percentage during the week, while also stealing a base in his lone attempt. On Friday at Stockton, he collected a triple and two singles as he passed the 200-total base milestone for his career, becoming only the 13th player in program history to reach that plateau. Through the weekend he raised his total to 204 total bases. On Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader against Ramapo, he had three RBIs, with the final two coming in the ninth inning to tie the game at 8-8 after the Raptors trailed, 8-1, entering the bottom of the eighth inning. They completed the comeback for a 9-8 win. Those two RBIs were the 100th and 101st of his career, making him only the fifth player at Rutgers-Camden to pass 100 career RBIs. Among his other notable career achievements, Murphy is tied for second on the team’s all-time list with 19 home runs, only two shy of the program record.
