Senior southpaw Chase Cooper has been one of the many reasons the Rutgers-Camden baseball team has opened its season with a 10-1 record, and Cooper has posted a 3-0 record and a 1.02 ERA in his four starts (17.2 innings) this season. In the Raptors’ three games last week, Cooper went 2-0 in seven innings, allowing five hits, four walks and one unearned run. He struck out six. On Wednesday in a pre-determined one-inning start to prepare for the spring break trip, Cooper threw one inning of no-hit, shutout ball against Rosemont College, walking two and striking out one. He became the winning pitcher when the Scarlet Raptors scored three times in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 20-3 victory. Cooper made his first start of the southern trip on Sunday, working against a UMass-Boston team that had received nine votes toward the D3baseball.com Top 25 poll last week. He worked six innings, allowing five hits, two walks and one unearned run. He struck out five in the Scarlet Raptors’ 4-2 victory.
