Freshman Asha Pensa Johnson started her outdoor track season with a bang at the Stockton Invitational over the weekend, breaking the Rutgers-Camden program record in the discus while helping to set a record in a new event, the 4x100 relay for throwers. Pensa Johnson finished first out of 41 athletes with a discus throw of 39.84 meters, breaking the women’s program record of 37.81 meters by Alexis Marini, April 21, 2023, at the Widener Invitational. She ran on the throwers’ 4x100 relay, which finished fourth of seven teams in 1:02.74 for a new school mark. Pensa Johnson also finished ninth of 36 athletes in the shot put (10.40 meters) and 15th of 17 athletes in the hammer throw (20.69 meters). The outdoor track season will mark the third varsity letter this year for Pensa Johnson, who started her collegiate career as a member of the volleyball team last fall and earned an indoor track letter over the winter.
