Asha Pensa Johnson capped her brilliant freshman year by capturing the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship in the discus at the NJAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday. Pensa Johnson finished first in a field of 28 athletes and broke her own Rutgers-Camden program record with a throw of 42.85 meters. Her old mark of 39.84 meters was set at the season-opening Stockton Invitational on March 21. In addition to her All-NJAC First Team honor in the discus, Pensa Johnson also set a PR of 27.30 meters while finishing 19th of 25 in the hammer throw at the NJAC meet on Saturday. Today’s Raptor of the Week honor is the second for Pensa Johnson this spring, having earned her first one on March 23 for outdoor track and field. She captured three varsity letters during her freshman year, beginning with volleyball last fall and adding indoor and outdoor track and field letters in the winter and spring.
