One of the all-time great student-athletes in Rutgers-Camden history, Robin England returned to her alma mater as a coach during the 2013-14 scholastsic year.
The first woman in school history to compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, England was a decorated four-year letterwinner in cross country, indoor and outdoor track for the Scarlet Raptors. She won team MVP honors in 11 of those 12 seasons, missing only during her freshman indoor track season.
Not only did England graduate with numerous school records and New Jersey Athletic Conference honors, but she also added as many honors for her work in the classroom. She was a three-time honoree as a USTFCCCA Division III Women’s All-academic Cross Country performer (2007, 2009 and 2010) and helped the Scarlet Raptors earn USTFCCCA team academic honors in 2009 and 2010. She also won a USTFCCCA Division III Women’s All-Academic Track & Field honor in 2011.
England captured three straight NJAC Academic First Team honors (freshmen aren’t eligible for the award), and was a constant fixture on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams, being selected three times apiece for both the cross country and track teams. She was the Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Year in 2008 and captured Performer of the Year honors on the paper’s track team in both 2010 and 2011.
England also was named to the Academic All-District 2 Women’s Cross Country/Track Second Team for the 2008-09 scholastic year, then earned First Team honors during her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, she added Academic All-America Second Team recognition.
A two-time Rutgers-Camden representative as the NJAIAW Woman of the Year (during the 2008-09 and 2010-11 scholastic years), England also won or shared honors as the Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week 18 times in her career, in addition to numerous NJAC Athlete of the Week honors.
As a cross country star, she was a three-time All-NJAC performer, including a First Team all-conference member as a junior and a senior. She was a two-time NJAIAW champion, a two-time All-Atlantic Regional star and she became the first Rutgers-Camden women to ever compete in the NCAA championships during her senior season, finishing 68th out of 279 runners. She ran the top nine, and 11 of the top 12 6K times in program history, including the record of 21:55.88 set at the NJAC Championships on Oct. 30, 2010. She also ran the top three 5K times in program history, setting the record of 18:52.21 at the Cabrini Invitational Oct. 23, 2010.
During her stellar four-year run in indoor track, England earned NJAC Honorable Mention as a freshman on the distance medley team, captured both NJAC First Team (5,000 meters) and Honorable Mention (4x800) as a junior and set the NJAC meet record at 3,000 meters while earning NJAC First Team honors during her senior season. She also participated in the NCAA Championships that season at 5,000 meters. She holds individual indoor program records at 800 meters (2:20.80), 1,000 meters (3:21.61), one mile (4:57.77), 3,000 meters (10:01.86) and 5,000 meters (17:12.09), while also helping to set a relay record in the 4x800 (10:48.48). At one time, she also was a member of both the program-record distance medley team, a mark which was broken in 2013, and the 4x400 relay team, a mark broken in 2014.
England captured five All-NJAC honors during her four-year outdoor track career, including First Team at 5,000 meters (both her sophomore and senior seasons) and at 10,000 meters (junior season). She also was an All-NJAC Second Team performer as a freshman (5,000 meters) and as a senior (1,500 meters). Her list of individual outdoor program records includes marks at 800 meters (2:20.59), 1,500 meters (4:41.33), 3,000 meters (10:15.23), 5,000 meters (17:20.41) and 10,000 meters (36:59.45). She also was a member of the record-setting 4x1,500-meter relay team (22:01.21).
