Raptors, Moravian play to 0-0 double-overtime tie

CAMDEN, N.J. – Rutgers University-Camden senior goalie Lauren West (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) collected 10 saves in 65 minutes of playing time in the second half and both overtimes as the Scarlet Raptors and Moravian College played to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference women's soccer game here Wednesday night.

Rutgers-Camden stands at 4-8-2, including 1-0-1 in its last two games. Moravian, which snapped a four-game losing streak, is 5-8-1.

After an even first half in which Moravian held a 5-4 edge in shots and Raptor senior goalie Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) made three saves, the Greyhounds stepped up the pressure in the second half against West. West had nine of her saves in the second half, including a game-saving play with 1:49 remaining in regulation when she batted a shot by Moravian's Micaela Kwochka (Monroe, CT/Academy of Our Lady of Mercy Laurelton Hall) off the crossbar and smothered the rebound near the goal line.

West also made key second-half saves against Taylor DiSora (Easton, PA/Easton) and Valentina Margiottiello (Iselin, NJ/The Wardlaw-Hartridge School), while a shot by Melissa Walko (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) went wide left of the post with 16:00 remaining in regulation.

Rutgers-Camden had a chance to win the game early in the first overtime, but a shot by freshman Catherine Fiore (Oaklyn, NJ/Paul VI) was saved by Moravian senior keeper Genevieve Chaleff (Cranford, NJ/Cranford).

For the game, the Greyhounds held a 21-9 advantage in shots, including a 13-1 margin in the second half. Moravian also held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Milby made three first-half saves for the Scarlet Raptors, while West had 10 saves playing the rest of the game.

Chaleff made four saves for the Greyhounds.

Both teams return to conference action with 1 p.m. home games on Saturday. The Scarlet Raptors face William Paterson University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference battle, while Moravian plays Juniata College in a Landmark Conference game.
