UNION, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2016) – The Kean University women's soccer team made an early goal stand up and the Cougars went on to edge Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday night.
Kean, which has won four straight games, improves to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-8-2 overall and 2-5 in the NJAC with its sixth one-goal loss this season and its fourth in a row. Six of their losses have come against Top 25 teams and three of them have been in overtime.
Kean leads the all-time series against Rutgers-Camden, 14-2-3, including shutout wins in the last six meetings.
It didn't take long for the Cougars to strike. Only 4:24 into the contest, senior midfielder
Jordyn Bronsky (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) notched her eighth goal of the season off a feed from freshman forward
Lexy Monroy (New Milford, NJ/New Milford). Bronsky's shot was one of only three that Kean managed in the first half, as it was out-shot, 6-3. Both teams had two shots on goal in the opening half.
Kean finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Lauren Healey (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made two saves to earn the shutout.

Katie Gurba (Westampton, NJ/Holy Cross) had three saves, lifting her career total to 182 to tie Kristen Cargen (2006-07) for fourth place on the program's career list. By playing the whole game, Gurba increased her career total to 3,306:57 minutes in goal, leaping from fourth place on the career list to second place. She passed both Cargen (3,272:33 minutes from 2006-07) and Leighanna Milby (3,292:32 from 2010-13).
The Scarlet Raptors won't play again until Saturday, Oct. 22, when they have a 1 p.m. NJAC game at William Paterson University.
