NEWARK, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2022) – The action started quickly in the New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer rivalry between Rutgers University-Camden and Rutgers University-Newark here Saturday night.
It ended just as suddenly.
The teams swapped goals in the opening 2:50 and that was all the scoring as the Scarlet Raptors and Scarlet Raiders finished with a 1-1 tie.
Rutgers-Camden stands at 4-6-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the conference. Rutgers-Newark is 6-8-2 and 2-3-1.
Rutgers-Camden scored only 52 seconds into the game on a shot to the lower left side of the net by sophomore
Emily Owens. It was her second goal of the season.
It didn't take Newark long to respond, as freshman midfielder Maria Castillo knotted the score at 2:50.
That was all the scoring in a game where Newark held a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. The Scarlet Raiders had nine shots on goal, as Raptor junior keeper
Kayla McKeever made eight saves. Her Newark counterpart, sophomore Kate McLaughlin, had three saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday when it entertains Stockton University in another NJAC game.
