Hilt, Marini score points on first day of Widener Invitational
CHESTER, PA (April 22, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden track team received 16 points from the women's combination of senior
Emily Hilt and sophomore
Alexis Marini as it competed on the first day of the two-day Widener Invitational here Friday.
Hilt produced 14 points by finishing fourth of 28 in the discus (37.49 meters) and second of 47 in the shot put (12.61 meters). Marini, meanwhile, notched two points by finishing eighth in the discus (35.19 meters), while also finishing 16th in the shot put (10.17 meters).
Hilt's discus throw broke the Rutgers-Camden program record of 37.16 meters, set by Donna-Marie Kirk on May 1, 2004 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.
The Scarlet Raptor women had seven athletes competing in the shot put. In addition to Hilt and Marini, freshman
Francis Hill finished 41st (7.79 meters), sophomore
Amara Eley was 43rd (7.68 meters), freshman
Karina Correa was 44th (7.60 meters), junior
Bianca Cortes was 46th (6.97 meters) and freshman
Bree Smith placed 47th (6.59 meters).
On the men's side, freshman
Amir Lindor finished 36th of 65 in the shot put (11.05 meters), while sophomore
Meek Sumter finished 57th (9.18 meters).
A pair of Raptor juniors also ran in the men's 5K race, which featured 89 athletes.
Jason Hyland finished 65th (16:07.68) and
Andrew Barnhardt placed 76th (16:18.16).
The Scarlet Raptors return to Widener Saturday for the final day of the Widener Invitational.
