GLENSIDE, Penn. (Sept. 20, 2023) – The Arcadia University women's soccer team scored on a first-half own goal and that was all the Knights needed as they defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a non-conference game here Tuesday night.
Arcadia evens its record at 4-4, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-3-1.
The victory raised Arcadia's record to 6-2-1 in its all-time series against Rutgers-Camden, including wins in the last five meetings dating back to 2008.
Only 11:30 into the game, the Knights scored when a corner kick to the near post was inadvertently deflected into the goal during a clearing attempt.
Rutgers-Camden had three shots to tie the game in the final 1:26, but sophomore goalie Jordan Polen made two saves and was aided on another shot by a backsave. Both of Polen's saves came against Raptor junior midfielder
Alyson Petro, who had two of the three Rutgers-Camden shots on goal in the game.
Arcadia finished with a 20-12 advantage in shots and held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Raptor senior goalie
Kayla McKeever finished with six saves, while the Knights split goalie duties between sophomores Abby Fuchs and Polen, with Polen picking up the lone two Arcadia saves in the waning moments of the game.
The Scarlet Raptors open their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule Saturday when they host William Paterson University at 1 p.m.
