CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team spent most of the night here Wednesday swarming around the Albright College goal, but the Scarlet Raptors couldn't find the back of the net. As a result, Rutgers-Camden played to a 0-0 tie against the Lions in a non-conference game.
The deadlock leaves the Scarlet Raptors with a 2-0-1 record, although Rutgers-Camden collected its third straight shutout to open the season.
Albright stands at 1-1-1.
Rutgers-Camden held a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks during the opening half, but Albright junior goalie McKenna LeVan was up to the task with five first-half saves. She was tested even more in the second half when the Scarlet Raptors outshot the Lions, 14-0, and added two more corner kicks. LeVan made seven of her 12 saves after the break, with some point-blank saves, including one at the doorstep against sophomore forward
Maresa Savarese.
The Scarlet Raptors also had a golden chance on a ball LeVan couldn't reach, but a shot by junior midfielder
Alyson Petro hit the post at 63:01.
Rutgers-Camden finished with a 21-3 advantage in shots and a 4-0 margin in corner kicks. LeVan had 12 saves, while Raptor junior keeper
Michaela Graham didn't need a save to notch her second straight shutout. Graham has now worked 267:55 of the team's 270 minutes without allowing a goal.
After three straight home games to open the season, the Scarlet Raptors hit the road this weekend for the Mayor's Cup Tournament in Oneonta, New York. They face Hartwick College at 12 p.m. on Saturday and SUNY-Oneonta at 12 p.m. Sunday.
Rutgers-Camden returns home Sept. 13 for a 7 p.m. game against Washington College.
