Raptor throwers take center stage at Widener Schuylkill Showcase
CHESTER, Penn. (Jan. 31, 2026) – The opening day of the Widener Schuylkill Showcase featured throwing events in the shot put and the weight throw here at Widener University on Saturday and the Rutgers University-Camden indoor track team sent 11 athletes and came away with five PR throws.
Senior
Kayla Franklin and junior
Dyheim Watson led the Raptor women and men, respectively, in both the weight throw and shot put competitions. Franklin finished 24th of 46 in the weight throw (10.64 meters) and 11th of 45 in the shot put (10.43 meters), while Watson was sixth of 35 in the weight throw (a PR 15.13 meters) and 17th of 45 in the shot put (12.04 meters).
Freshman
Arianna Lalli finished 29th in the weight throw (a PR 9.64 meters) and 41st in the shot put (a PR 6.59 meters), while freshman
Asha Pensa Johnson was 18th in the shot put (a PR 9.92 meters), junior
Mya Cabanas Montero was 33rd in the weight throw (9.44 meters) and junior
Abigail Soriano placed 45th in the shot put (5.69 meters).
In addition to Watson, the Raptor men saw junior
Emmanuel Richardson finish 31st in the weight throw (9.32 meters) and 37th in the shot put (8.37 meters), while freshman
Monroe Hall was 33rd in the weight throw (8.63 meters) and 34th in the shot put (8.72 meters).
The Raptor men also saw three other athletes compete in the shot put, with senior
Walter Pierce finishing 25th (10.68 meters), freshman
Michael Hawkins placing 28th (10.39 meters) and freshman
Muhammad Elijah Samad-Muhammad finished 33rd (a PR 8.74 meters).
The second day of the Widener Schuylkill Showcase will be held at the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday.
