Quartet of Scarlet Raptors compete on first day of Danny Curran meet

CHESTER, Penn. (March 27, 2026) – Four members of the Rutgers University-Camden outdoor track team competed in the field events here Friday on the first day of Widener University's Danny Curran Invitational.
 
The Scarlet Raptors were led by freshman Asha Pensa Johnson, who competed in both the women's shot put and discus, and senior teammate Kayla Franklin, who competed in the shot put. Franklin finished 10th in a field of 69 shot put athletes with a distance of 10.96 meters, while Pensa Johnson was 32nd (9.97 meters). Pensa Johnson also was ninth of 32 in the discus (36.53), one week after setting a program discus record of 39.84 meters.
 
On the men's side, freshman Willyam Dupreville placed 27th of 35 in the triple jump (12.16 meters), while freshman Michael Hawkins fouled in the men's shot put.
 
The Scarlet Raptors return to Chester, Pennsylvania, on Saturday for the final day of the Danny Curran Invitational, where the bulk of the events will be competed.
