CAMDEN, N.J. (March 23, 2026) – Freshman Asha Pensa Johnson (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) had another outstanding meet over the weekend for the Rutgers University-Camden women's outdoor track and field program. As a result, she captured her second honor this spring as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week.

Pensa Johnson competed in three events at the Osprey Open, held at Stockton University. She finished 14th of 23 athletes in the hammer throw on Friday with a PR of 24.57 meters. On Saturday, she placed eighth of 27 in the shot put (a PR of 10.81 meters) and won the discus competition in a field of 31 athletes, notching a throw of 39.72 meters. That throw came close to her program record of 39.84 meters in the discus, which was set at the Stockton Invitational in her first collegiate outdoor meet on March 21.

That season-opening meet earned Pensa Johnson her first NJAC Rookie of the Week honor on March 23.

In addition to her program discus record, Pensa Johnson also participated in another program record in a first-time event, a 4x100 relay for throwers. The Raptors' team posted a 1:02.74 clocking at that Stockton Invitational meet on March 21.

Pensa Johnson's busy scholastic year started as a key member of the Rutgers-Camden volleyball team last fall. She lettered over the winter with the indoor track program.

Pensa Johnson is a Pre-Nursing major at Rutgers-Camden.
