A transfer from Burlington County College, Devon Welsh came to Rutgers-Camden as a second baseman, but made a smooth transition to the outfield in 2014, where she became an outstanding defensive left fielder and hit .280.
Welsh returns for her second season at Rutgers-Camden and her final season of collegiate eligibility.
Softball 2014: Played in 29 games, starting 28…Fifth on the team with a .280 batting average…Tied for the club lead with five doubles and one triple…Led the team in stolen bases with eight (in nine attempts)…Compiled a five-game hitting streak (8-for-14, .571) from March 19-April 1…The streak started with a 3-for-4 game against St. Norbert and ended with a 2-for-2 performance in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Ramapo College…Went 1-for-3 with a double, one run and two RBIs in her first game as a Scarlet Raptor, the opener of a March 11 doubleheader against John Jay College…Went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI in the opener of a doubleheader against Kean University (April 12) and was 2-for-3 in both ends of a doubleheader against Richard Stockton College (April 16)…Also 2-for-3 with one RBI in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Rowan University (April 22).
Pre-Rutgers: Captured softball letters at Burlington County College in 2012 and 2013.
High School: Earned four varsity soccer letters, as well as three letters in basketball, two in softball and one in winter track at Audubon High School…All-South Jersey in softball…Earned the Pride and Excellence honor for track.
Personal: Born November 25, 1992…Nicknamed “Dink”…Psychology major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to earn her Masters in physical therapy…Devon is the daughter of Dawn and Gerard Welsh of Maple Shade.
