
Sean Sanchirico begins his final season with the Scarlet Raptors’ golf program as a team tri-captain, capping a long and inspirational career that has earned him numerous honors for his courage and perseverance.

On Oct. 6, 2014, Sanchirico underwent major surgery after it was discovered that years of illness was due to a massive brain tumor. Following months of recovery and rehabilitation, he returned to school during the 2015 fall semester and played his first competitive round of golf for the Scarlet Raptors on Oct. 26 – 13 months after his last appearance with the Rutgers-Camden team. His trials earned him the William P. Carty Memorial Award at the 2016 Rutgers-Camden Athletic Awards banquet. That honor is given annually to the school’s Most Courageous Athlete.

Sanchirico added another major honor from the North Eastern Athletic Conference when he was named a recipient of the 2015-16 NEAC Inspirational Award.

A leader on the campus and stellar student as well, Sanchirico is a member of Rutgers-Camden’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was a member of the inaugural Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll during the 2015 fall semester. He added a berth on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2016 spring semester.

In 11 career rounds over seven semesters, he owns a 89.8 average.

Spring 2017: Played in three rounds, averaging 87.7…Notched an 87, playing as an individual, at the season-opening Myrtle Beach Shootout (March 15) to tie for 25th of 33 overall…Finished fourth on the C Team and tied for 24th of 33 overall at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Golf Invitational (April 3)…Playing as an individual, carded an 87 to finish 15th of 19 in a dual match against Wesley College (April 19).

Fall 2016: Played in one event with the Rutgers-Camden C Team at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Fall Golf Invitational (Oct. 24)…Shot an 82 to tie for the C Team lead and tie for 12th overall out of 39 golfers.

Spring 2016: Still recovering from his long ordeal, played in three rounds, averaging 90.7…Carded a 92 as an individual at the season-opening Myrtle Beach Shootout (March 16), tying for 33rd of 40 golfers…Shot a 93 at the Stockton Invitational (March 30)  to finish fifth on the B Team and 19th of 22 overall…Had his best round of the semester with an 87 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Golf Invitational (April 4), playing as an individual and tying for 42nd of 61 overall.

Fall 2015: Returned to the golf team and competed in one invitational as an individual, shooting a round of 98 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Fall Invitational (Oct. 26) to finish 64th of 73 golfers…It was his first Rutgers-Camden action in 13 months and two days.

Fall 2014: Competed in one early-season invitational before losing the season to health concerns…Shot a 96 to finish third on the B Team and tie for 15th of 20 overall at the Richard Stockton Invitational (Sept. 24).

Spring 2014:  Shot an 84 in his only competition of the season, coming at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Spring Golf Invitational (April 4)…Tied for 25th of 76 golfers.

Fall 2013: Made his collegiate debut as an individual at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Fall Golf Invitational (Oct. 18)…Shot a 93 to tie for 36th of 44 golfers.

High School: Earned five varsity letters at Paul VI High School, with three coming in golf and two in soccer.
