Biography

3372Before Kevin Sarlo closes his collegiate career this spring as arguably the finest golfer in Rutgers-Camden history, the Scarlet Raptors’ senior co-captain is looking to add more honors to a legacy that includes three straight team Most Valuable Player honors, three consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference First Team awards and the distinction of being the only golfer in Rutgers-Camden program history to make the cut at the NCAA Division III Golf Championships.
 
Named Rutgers-Camden’s Male Athlete of the Year as a junior, Sarlo has led the Scarlet Raptors to the NEAC championship and into the NCAA Division III Golf Championships during each of his three seasons at Rutgers-Camden. He’s looking to make it 4-for-4 this spring.
 
A two-time ECAC Division III Golfer of the Month, Sarlo has been an 11-time NEAC Golfer of the Week, winning the honor at least once during each of his seven collegiate semesters. He has been a six-time Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week during his career and has been an overall medalist at seven career invitationals.
 
During the 2016 Fall season, Sarlo tied the program record for a low round (69) on Oct. 2 and set a new record with a 67 on Oct. 17.
 
Through 59 career rounds, Sarlo owns a 76.4 average.
 
3103Fall 2016: Averaged 73.1 while playing all eight rounds for the Scarlet Raptors during the semester…His average was the second-best on the team during the fall…Captured Second Team All-Tournament honors at the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Golf Championships (Oct. 1-2), carding a two-day 77-69—146 to finish third on the Raptors and tied for ninth overall out of 91 golfers…His round of 69 tied Rutgers-Camden’s long-time program record…Broke that mark with a 67 at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational (Oct. 17), leading the Raptors and finishing second overall on a tiebreaker for the top spot out of 86 golfers…Opened the season with a 74 to finish second on the team and tie for third of 64 golfers at the Moravian Invitational (Sept. 12)…Led the team with a 73 at the Ursinus Invitational (Sept. 27), tying for fourth out of 52 overall…Shot a 78 to place third on the A Team and fifth of 25 overall at the Stockton Invitational (Oct. 12), helping the team begin a season-ending four-match winning streak…His 67 at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational helped the team set a program record with a 283 round, a score it matched two days later in winning the Eastern Invitational…Sarlo shot a 70 at Eastern to finish second on the team and second of 34 overall, as teammate Zach Arsenault tied his program record with a 67 round…Sarlo and Arsenault were named Rutgers-Camden’s Co-Raptors of the Week on Oct. 24…Sarlo ended the season with a 77 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Fall Golf Invitational (Oct. 24), tying for second on the team and tying for third of 39 overall…His final week, in which he averaged a 71.3 in three events over an eight-day span (Oct. 17-24), earned him honors as the NEAC Golfer of the Week on Oct. 25.
 
Spring 2016: Led the Scarlet Raptors with a 75.3 average while playing in 10 rounds during the semester…Became the only player ever at Rutgers-Camden to make the cut at the NCAA Division III Golf Championships (May 10-13), finishing tied for 31st overall with a four-round total of 72-73-79-82—306…Earned NEAC First Team honors for the third straight year, pasting a two-day total of 73-75—148 at the NEAC Championships (April 23-24) to finish first on the Raptors and second of 41 overall…Named Rutgers-Camden’s Male Athlete of the Year…Captured his third straight team MVP honor…Named the ECAC Division III Co-Golfer of the Month for March…Named NEAC Men’s Golfer of the Week March 22…Earned Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week honors on April 25 and May 16…Was medalist at the season-opening Myrtle Beach Shootout (March 16), carding a 74 to finish first in a field of 40 golfers…Beat a field of 22 golfers by shooting a 77 to earn medalist honors at the Stockton Invitational (March 30)…Placed second of 61 golfers and second on Rutgers-Camden’s A Team with a stellar 72 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Golf Invitational (April 4)…Second on the Raptors and tied for fifth of 80, shooting a 76 at the Messiah Falcon Classic (April 19).
 
2978Fall 2015: Led the team with a 73.6 average during his five rounds in the fall…Was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Oct. 6, Oct. 13, Oct. 20 and Nov. 3…Became the first Rutgers-Camden golfer ever to capture ECAC Division III Golfer of the Month honors, winning that recognition for October…Was the overall medalist at the Stockton Invitational (Oct. 7 with an even-par 71) and the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Invitational (Oct. 26) with an even-par 70, leading fields of 20 and 73 golfers, respectively…Also tied for medalist honors at the season-opening Philadelphia University Invitational (Sept. 30) with a 3-over par 75….Finished first on the team and tied for second of 61 at the Muhlenberg Invitational (Oct. 12), carding a 2-over par 72…Tied for second on the team and tied for 41st overall of 94 at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational (Oct. 19), shooting a 9-over par 80…Was named Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on both Oct. 12 and Nov. 2.
 
Spring 2015: Competed in all 10 invitationals and 12 rounds during the spring season, leading the Scarlet Raptors with a 78.3 average…Led the team to the NEAC championship (April 18-19) while earning First Team all-conference honors for the second straight season…Rutgers-Camden MVP for the second consecutive year…Named NEAC Golfer of the Week on both March 24 and April 7…Overall medalist at the Immaculata Invitational (March 30), shooting a 74 to pace a field of 47 golfers…Led, or tied for the lead, on the Scarlet Raptors in seven of 10 invitationals…Opened the season at the Myrtle Beach Shootout (March 17), tying for the team lead and tying for fourth out of 52 golfers overall with a round of 78…Paced the team at the Griffin Invitational (March 24), tying for 14th of 86 with a round of 78…His medalist honors at Immaculata helped the Scarlet Raptors capture the first of three consecutive overall invitational wins…Tied for first on the team and fourth of 16 overall with an 80 at the Swarthmore Quad (April 1)…In his lone tough outing of the year, shot an 89 to finish fifth on the Raptors’ A Team and ninth of 20 overall, as the Raptors still won the Stockton Invitational (April 8)…Bounced back the next day with an 81 to tie for third on the team and 16th of 57 overall at the Moravian Invitational, helping the Raptors to a second-place finish…Led the team with a 76 and finished second of 69 golfers overall at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Invitational (April 13)…Finished second on the team and third of 40 overall as the Raptors won the NEAC Championship (April 18-19), carding a two-day total of 76-77—153…Placed first on the team and tied for 121st of 210 at the NCAA Championships (May 12-13), shooting a two-day 77-80—157.
 
2653Fall 2014: Competed in all six invitationals and seven rounds during the semester…Paced the club with a 78.6 average…Individual medalist (out of 20 golfers) at the Richard Stockton Invitational (Sept. 24), shooting a 76…Carded a 79 to lead the team and tie for seventh of 79 golfers at the season-opening Falcon Classic (Sept. 16)…Shot the Raptors’ best round of the fall, a 73, to tie for third of 114 golfers at the Muhlenberg Invitational (Sept. 29)…The 73 tied his career-best round, accomplished four times, and was the Raptors’ top round of the fall semester…Captured  North Eastern Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week honors on Sept. 30…Finished second on the team and tied for 31st of 64 at the two-day ECAC Mid-Atlantic Regionals (Oct. 4-5), shooting 85-76—161…Carded an 81 to finish third on the A Team and tie for 22nd of 87 overall at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Fall Invitational (Oct. 17)…Closed the season with a round of 80 at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational (Oct. 20), finishing second on the Raptors and tied for 38th of 97 overall.
 
Spring 2014: Posted a team-leading 76.5 average, playing in all 12 rounds during the spring season…Captured North Eastern Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week honors on March 31 after his first three collegiate outings: shooting an 80 in his first outing to finish tied for seventh of 29 and then leading the team with a 79 (fourth of 25 overall) at the Richard Stockton Invitational and a 73 at the York Invitational (tied for fifth of 83 overall) on back-to-back days March 23-24…Named to the NEAC First Team  at the conference championships (April 25-26) with a two-round total of 82-74—156 to finish tied for fifth out of 34 golfers…Medalist at the Swarthmore College Quad #3 (April 21), shooting a 73 to lead a field of 46 golfers…Named Rutgers-Camden team MVP…Led team to its second straight NEAC title and fourth in six years…Posted a two-day score of 73-74—147 at the NCAA Division III Golf Championship (May 13-14), tying for 29th of 210 golfers in the opening two rounds…That performance earned him honors on May 19 as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week…Finished second on the Raptors and tied for second of 76 overall with a 5-over par 75 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Invitational (April 4)…Led the team and tied for eighth of 70 at the Alvernia Invitational (April 8), carding an 80…Third on the club and tied for 34th of 85 at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational (April 14) with a round of 79…Second on the team and third of 24 with a round of 76 at the Keuka Invitational (April 17).
 
3108Fall 2013: Averaged 79.0 while competing in all five invitationals for the Rutgers-Camden A Team, posting the second-best average on the squad…Carded an 80 in his first collegiate match to finish fourth on the team and tie for 32nd of 97 at the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational (Sept. 23)…Finished second on the team and tied for third of 87 at the Muhlenberg Fall Invitational (Sept. 30), helping the Scarlet Raptors win the team title with a round of 76…Tied for 12th of 20 and finished fifth on the Raptors on a rainy, windy day at the Richard Stockton Invitational (Oct. 9), carding an 84…Posted another 76 to lead the team and tie for third overall out of 66 golfers at the LVC Invitational (Oct. 14)…Closed the season with a 79 to finish third on the Raptors and tie for ninth overall out of 44 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Fall Invitational (Oct. 18)…His combined performance at the LVC and RU-Camden invitationals earned him honors as the NEAC Golfer of the Week for Oct. 21.
