A graduate student who is pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at Rutgers-Camden, Alisha Singleton returns for her senior year of track eligibility after an amazing indoor and outdoor season in 2016-17. She earned recognition as the Most Valuable Track athlete on the women’s indoor/outdoor track and field programs in her first year of collegiate competition and will serve as a team co-captain this season.
During her first track season with the indoor program, she notched a pair of individual program records and competed on three record-setting relay teams. She also was named the school’s Raptor of the Week on February 27. She continued her great year during outdoor season, which included running an ECAC qualifier four times in the 100-meter hurdles. She skipped the ECAC meet to attend her Rutgers-Camden graduation ceremony.
Academically, Singleton earned a berth on the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for both the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters.
Outdoor Track 2017: Competed in seven spring meets in numerous events, including the 100-meter dash (at six meets), the 100-meter hurdles (six meets), the 200-meter dash (three) and the 4x100 (two)…Opened the spring at the Golden Ram Invitational (March 25), placing 17th of 42 at 100 meters (13.45), 18th of 42 at 200 meters (27.80), fifth of 17 in the 100 hurdles (15.85) and fourth of six while running the third leg of the 4x100 (a personal best 52.58)…At the Stockton Invitational (April 1), finished second of 14 at 100 meters (13.46) and sixth of 17 at 200 meters (27.85)…Earned an ECAC qualifying time of 15.57 in the preliminaries of the 100 hurdles (running third of seven athletes) to reach the finals and finished fourth of six in the finals (15.88) at the Oscar Moore Open (April 8), while also placing 11th of 20 in the 100-meter dash (13.17)…At the Gwynedd Mercy Mid-Week Twilight Invitational (April 12), reached the finals in both the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles…Set a personal best of 13.11 in the 100-meter preliminaries to place third of 46 and went on finishing eighth in the finals (14.37), while finishing second of 15 in the 100 hurdles preliminaries (15.82) and second of eight in the finals (15.95)…Ran both events at the Widener Invitational (April 22), finishing 29th of 52 at 100 meters (13.49) and eighth of 39 in the 100 hurdles (15.68, an ECAC qualifier)…Had a stellar two days May 6-7 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships…On the opening day, tied her personal best of 13.11 while finishing 11th of 19 in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, set a personal best of 27.18 to finish 14th of 27 in the 200-meter dash prelims and qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals by playing sixth of 16 in the preliminaries with an ECAC qualifier and personal best time of 15.27…On the second day of the NJAC meet, finished seventh of eight in the 100 hurdles final (15.31, another ECAC qualifier) and served as the third leg as the Raptors’ 4x100 finished seventh of seven teams (54.31)…Closed her season stumbling in the 100-meter hurdles at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier (May 15) to finish 15th of 15 (23.12).
Indoor Track 2016-17: Competed in six meets in numerous events, including the 60, 200 and 400-meter dashes, the 60-meter hurdles, the 1600 Sprint Medley and the 4x160 and 4x200 relays…Named Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week February 27 after a stellar performance at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships …Set program individual records in the 60-meter dash (8.21) and the 60-meter hurdles (9.44) at the NJAC meet (Feb. 20) and also ran a leg on the record-setting 4x200 team (1:55.80) at the conference meet…Helped the Raptors set a program record in the 1600 Sprint Medley (4:47.52) at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout (Dec. 9)…Anchored the program-record 4x160 relay team (1:32.67) at the Widener Field Meet (Jan. 27)…In her first collegiate meet for the Raptors, finished seventh of 26 in the 200-meter dash (29.13) and eighth of 23 in the 400-meter dash (1:07.75) at the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 3)…In addition to her sprint medley program mark at the Wagner Shootout, finished ninth of 17 in the 60-meter hurdles (10.01)…At the Gotham Cup (Jan. 20), set a short-lived program mark in the 60 hurdles (9.72, which she broke at the NJAC meet) while finishing 27th of 45, and also placed 58th of 66 in the 200-meter dash (28.41)…Helped her team finish first of three with the program record in the 4x160 relay, while also placing third of 14 in the 200-meter dash (29.34) and fifth of eight in the 400-meter dash (1:10.38) at the Widener Field Meet (Jan. 27)…Competed in four events, including the program-record 4x200 relay, at the St. Joseph’s Invitational (Feb. 11), finishing 28th of 55 in the 60-meter dash (8.55), 10th of 26 in the 60-meter hurdles (9.84) and 40th of 82 in the 200-meter dash (28.54)…At the NJAC meet (Feb. 20), placed 10th of 21 in the 60-meter dash (8.21), seventh of 18 in the 60-meter hurdle qualifying round (9.44), 19th of 26 in the 200-meter dash (28.12) and sixth of six in the 4x200 (1:55.80), all with personal best times…All but the 200-meter time set a program mark…In the 60-meter hurdle final, later that day, finished eighth with a 9.61 clocking.
High School: Graduate of Sterling High School in 2013…Captured three varsity letters in track for Coach Jeff McIlvaine…Earned All-Conference First Team honors as a junior and a senior…National Honor Society…Honor Roll student.
Personal: Born June 29, 1995…Was a Social Work major with a minor in Criminal Justice at Rutgers-Camden, who graduated in May 2017 and is now pursing her Master’s in Social Work…Alisha is the daughter of Tim and Renita Singleton of Somerdale.
