Biography

Gus Gyamfi has been a member of the cross country team and both the indoor and outdoor track programs during his two years at Rutgers University-Camden. He helped to set an indoor program record in the 1,600-meter sprint medley during his freshman year and he has been a member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll on two occasions.
 
During his freshman year, Gyamfi was named the Most Dedicated Athlete on the men’s cross country team.
 
Program records (through 2017-18): Indoor Track – 1,600 Sprint Medley (3:48.71) with Leo Impagliazzo, Cameron Dobbins and Scott Bamberg Jr. at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout (Dec. 9, 2016).
 
Academics: Member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters.
 
Outdoor Track 2018: Competed in five meets in three difference events…Earned an ECAC qualifier in the 4x800 (a PR of 8:29.67) while finishing sixth of nine at the Osprey Open (April 13)…The next day, finished 49th of 60 (2:15.83) in the 800-meter run at the Osprey Open…Opened the season placing 16th of 17 in the 400-meter dash (56.46) at the Oscar Moore Open (April 6)…At the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 6), finished 22nd of 28 at 800 meters (2:09.60)…Notched a PR of 2:08.55 in the 800-meter run, finishing 77th of 82 at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier (May 14)…A member of the Raptors’ 4x800 relay team which finished 12th of 12 at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 17).
 
Indoor Track 2017-18: Competed in four meets and notched PR times in four events…In the season-opening TCNJ Winter Invitational (Dec. 2), finished 20th of 29 in the 600-meter run with a PR of 1:32.11 and also  ran on the 4x400 team, which placed fifth of five (3:52.09)…In the Fast Times Before Finals meet (Dec. 9), ran on the 4x800 team which placed seventh of seven, setting his PR at 8:54.37…After overcoming injuries, returned for the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 3) and placed 31st of 47 at 800 meters (2:15.48) and fifth of 12 with the 4x400 team (a PR of 3:39.05)…Set his PR of 2:11.91 and finished 15th of 18 at 800 meters in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 19).
 
Cross Country 2017: After recovering from early-season injuries, he competed in a pair of races, scoring both times for the Raptors as their fifth man…Ran at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (Oct. 28) and finished 83rd of 89 (34:49.69) in his first race back from injuries…Closed his season at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals (Nov. 11), placing 284th of 290 (34:01.2).
 
Outdoor Track 2017: Competed in seven invitationals, including six in the 800-meter run…Also competed in the 400-meter dash and with the 4x400 relay team…Made his outdoor debut at the Stockton Invitational (April 1), finishing ninth of 15 at 800 meters (2:14.08)…Finished sixth of 14 at 800 meters (2:11.90) and ran the anchor leg on the 4x400, which finished fourth of four (3:51.81) at the Oscar Moore Open (April 8)…At the Gwynedd Mercy Mid-Week Twilight Invitational (April 12), finished 33rd of 53 at 800 meters (2:10.96) and anchored the 4x400 (3:40.15) team, which placed ninth of 14…Notched a personal-best time of 2:09.79 at 800 meters to finish 109th of 129 at the Widener Invitational (April 22)…At the Lions Invitational (April 29), posted a 55.01 time in the 400-meter dash (55th of 76) and a 2:11.66 clocking at 800 meters (95th of 118)…At the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 6-7), finished 22nd of 27 in the 400-meter preliminaries in a time of 53.84 on the first day…On the second day of the NJACs, finished 22nd of 25 at 800 meters (2:10.21) and ran the second leg of the 4x400, which posted a time of 3:47.12 and finished seventh…Closed the season at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier (May 15), placing 43rd of 44 in the 400-meter dash (55.79).
 
Indoor Track 2016-17: Competed at six meets during the season, beginning with the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 3) in which he finished 14th of 27 at 800 meters (2:19.47) and set a personal best at 400 meters (56.99), placing ninth of 22…Ran the leadoff leg on the Raptors’ sprint medley team, which finished sixth of eight and set a program record (3:48.71) at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout (Dec. 9)…Finished 72nd of 78 at 800 meters (2:15.70) in the Gotham Cup (Jan. 20)…Had a stellar day at the Widener Field Meet (Jan. 27), setting personal bests at 1,000 meters (3:05.65) and the mile (5:27.77) while finishing first of three athletes and second of four, respectively…Notched a personal best of 2:13.51 at 800 meters to place 17th of 20 at the NJAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 20).
 
Cross Country 2016: Ran in five meets during the cross country season…Named the team’s Most Dedicated athlete…Made his collegiate debut at the 8K Osprey Open Sept. 24, where he placed sixth on the Raptors and 114th of 155 overall (32:47.29)…Finished 103rd of 162 runners overall and sixth on the team at the 8K Jack Saint Clair Memorial Oct. 8 (36:12.8)…At the Inter-Regional Border Battle, which was run on a short 7.8K course Oct. 15, placed fifth on the Scarlet Raptors and 376th of 382 overall (31:49.4)…Posted a 31:55.79 8K clocking at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship (Oct. 29) to place sixth on the Scarlet Raptors team and 76th of 86 overall…Closed his season posting an 8K personal best at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals Nov. 12 (31:37.8), while finishing fifth on the team and 282nd of 303 overall.
 
High School: Captured one varsity cross country letter at Burlington County Institute of Technology in Westampton, running for Coach Martin Booker…Second Team All-Conference…Honor Roll student every year…Also earned All-American status running over the summer with the Willingboro Track Club, helping his 4x800 team finish second (7:57.37) at the AAU Junior Olympics in Humble, Texas (July 30-Aug. 6, 2016)…Posted 2:03.97 clocking at 800 meters to finish sixth of 20 at the UAGTCA 2016 Youth Invitational at Widener University (July 24)…Also finished 18th of 24 in the 1,500-meter run at the USATF Hershey National Youth Outdoor Championship at Millersville University (July 3) with a 4:33.28 time and was 30th of 38 in the 800 (2:08.65)…His personal bests are 2:01 for the 800 and 4:29 at 1,500 meters.
