The Scarlet Raptors’ top distance runner, Richard Campolungo already has captured three Rutgers-Camden letters with the cross country and indoor track programs. A two-time team MVP with the cross country program, he begins his second season with the outdoor track program this spring.
A stellar student as well, Campolungo earned New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention as a sophomore and was a member of the inaugural Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll when it was announced following the 2015 fall semester. He added a berth on the 2016 Spring Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, where he was one of only five student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 on that team, and notched his third AD Academic Honor Roll recognition during the 2016 fall semester.
Campolungo also served as the Co-Vice Chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2016-17 scholastic year.
Indoor Track 2016-17: Competed in the mile at all five of his invitationals during the winter, while also racing twice at 800 meters and once at 3,000 meters…Opened the season at the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 3), placing first of 11 at 3,000 meters (10:13.15) and fifth of 19 in the mile (4:58.90)…Was 25th of 40 in the mile (4:52.45) at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout (Dec. 9)…Posted his personal best indoor 800 time (2:13.83) and finished 31st of 44 at the Collegeville Classic (Jan. 21), while also finishing 25th of 43 in the mile (4:58.62)…At the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Invitational (Feb. 11), finished 44th of 73 at 800 meters (2:14.77) and 30th of 65 in the mile (4:51.30)…Closed the season finishing 10th of 13 in the mile (4:50.47) at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 20).
Cross Country 2016: Competed in all eight of the Scarlet Raptors’ invitationals during the fall, finishing first on the team three times, second on four occasions and third once…Named the team's MVP for the second straight year...At a pair of 5K races to open the season, he finished second on the team at the Bryn Mawr Invitational Sept. 1 (19:51.9, 32nd of 78 overall) and third on the Raptors at the Philadelphia Metropolitan meet Sept. 10 (20:23.3, 33rd of 90 overall)…In a pair of races at Rowan University that turned out to be run on a short 7.8K course, he was second on the Raptors at both the Bill Fritz/Charlie Way Invitational Sept. 17 (29:22.68, 101st of 174 overall) and the Inter-Regional Border Battle Oct. 15 (28:02.6, 328th of 382 overall)…Led the Raptors at the 8K Osprey Open Sept. 24 (29:17.66) while finishing 59th of 155 overall…Was the Raptors’ top runner at the Jack Saint Clair Memorial 8K race on Oct. 8 (31:03.1), finishing 41st of 162…Placed second on the team and 63rd of 86 overall at the NJAC Championships Oct. 29 (29:09.99)…Led the team and was 222nd of 303 overall at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals Nov. 12, posting his best 8K time of the year in 28:49.1.
Outdoor Track 2016: In his first outdoor track season, competed at six meets, running 1,500 meters in each event…Set his personal best of 4:20.25 in his last meet while finishing 12th of 21 at the NJAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship (May 8)…Opened the year placing 26th of 48 at the Stockton Invitational (4:30.66)…Ran a 4:27.75 clocking at 1,500 meters at the Oscar Moore Open (April 1), finishing 10th of 18…Posted a 4:42.64 time at the Osprey Open (April 9) to finish 15th of 27…Ran a 4:24.51 time to place 48th of 64 at the Greyhound Invitational (April 16) and added a 4:27.27 clocking to place 73rd of 102 at the Widener Invitational (April 23).
Indoor Track 2015-16: Competed in the 3,000-meter run at five invitationals and also ran the mile at two of them…Opened the indoor season finishing sixth of 12 in the 3,000 M at the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 5) in a time of 10:13.32…Notched a 9:43.20 clocking (adjusted to 9:49.97 to account for the banked track) at the Ramapo Select meet (Jan. 30), finishing 26th of 37 in the 3,000-meter run…Competed in both the mile (a personal best 4:50.70, 20th of 33) and the 3,000-meter run (9:59.80, 29th of 41) at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 6)…At the Albright Invitational (Feb. 13), finished second of eight in the 3,000 M (10:06.61, adjusted to 10:03.76 for the short track) and second of seven in the mile (5:10.27 adjusted to 5:08.44)…Competed at 3,000 meters in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, finishing 10th of 14 in a personal best time of 9:27.89.
Cross Country 2015: Team captain who competed in all six of the Scarlet Raptors’ 8K invitationals, leading the team each time…Named team’s MVP…Finished 31st of 121 runners (31:40.5) at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Cross Country Championship to open the season (Sept. 12)…Ran a 30:39.60 time and finished 48th of 93 runners at the Bill Fritz/Charlie Way Invitational (Sept. 19)…Placed 35th of 145 runners at the Osprey Open (Sept. 26) in a time of 28:54.22…Finished 24th of 133 runners (30:09.3) at the Jack Saint Clair Memorial Invitational (Oct. 10)…Placed second out of 34 runners in a time of 29:09.15 at the CTC Championships (Oct. 17), earning honors as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week for Oct. 19…Notched his personal best time of 27:53.61 and finished 55th of 91 runners at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships (Oct. 31).
Indoor Track 2014-15: Competed in six meets, running everywhere from 1,000 meters to 3,000 meters individually and anchoring his lone relay with the distance medley team…Finished 16th of 17 at 3,000 meters (9:52.72) at the MAC Classic (Dec. 14) in his first collegiate indoor meet…Ran both 1,000 meters (eighth of 17, 2:56.03) and the mile (17th of 28, 4:58.31) at the St. Joseph’s Invitational (Jan. 17)…Helped the DMR finish fifth of seven in a time of 11:31.71 at the Collegeville Classic (Jan. 23)…Placed 10th of 25 with a mile tim4e of 4:53.35 at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 7)…Won the seven –man competition at 3,000 meters in a time of 9:55.56 at the Albright Invitational (Feb. 14)…Finished 16th of 20 with a personal best time of 9:50.73 at 3,000 meters during the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 26).
Cross Country 2014: Scored in all seven of the Scarlet Raptors’ invitationals during the fall season, finishing second on the team twice, third once and fourth on four occasions…Made his collegiate debut at the 5K Bryn Mawr Invite (Aug. 29), finishing second on the Raptors and 12th of 42 overall in a time of 18:14.27…Ran his first 8K collegiate meet at the Highlander Invitational (Sept. 6), finishing 14th of 101 overall and second on the team in 30:01.30…Finished fourth on the club in four straight outings, including the Osprey Open (Sept. 20, 57th of 109 overall in 29:20.52), the Belmont Classic (Oct. 4, sixth of 26, 35:15.62), the Jack St. Clair Championships (Oct. 11, 40th of 136, 30:23) and the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship (Nov. 1, 69th of 101, 29:22:04)…Set his personal best 8K time of 28:48.3 at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals (Nov. 15), finishing third on the Scarlet Raptors and 192nd of 285 overall.
