Biography

A transfer from Camden County College, where she was a two-sport star, Kayla Franklin became the Scarlet Raptors’ top thrower in her first season with the outdoor track team during the spring 2025 campaign.
 
Academics: Dean’s List student and member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2025 Spring semester.
 
Outdoor Track 2025: Named Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on April 7 and April 21…Competed in four different events over the course of six meets…Made her Raptor debut at the season-opening Stockton Invitational (March 22), where she finished sixth of 27 in the javelin (31.49 meters) and seventh of 34 in the discus (31.48 meters)…Placed 21st of 61 in the shot put (10.43 meters) on the first day of the Danny Curran Invitational (March 28) and finished 13th of 31 in the javelin (30.06 meters) the next day…Competed in all four throwing events at the Ursinus College Track & Field Festival (April 4-5), including the hammer throw (19th of 25, a PR of 23.65 meters) on the first day and three events on the second day: the javelin (sixth of 35, 32.28 meters), discus (12th of 44, 32.87 meters) and the shot put (ninth of 46, 10.67 meters)…At the Paul Donahue Invitational (April 18-19), set a pair of PRs on the opening day, finishing 19th of 32 in the discus (32.94 meters) and fifth of 41 in the shot put (11.82 meters) before placing third of 26 in the javelin (33.01 meters)…Placed ninth of 16 in the javelin (32.25 meters) and 12th of 28 in the shot put (11.69 meters) on back-to-back days at the Lions Invitational (April 25-26)…On the opening day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (May 3), set a PR in both the javelin (33.80 meters, seventh of 17) and the hammer throw (26.98 meters, 19th of 22), while competing on the second day in the discus (30.20 meters, 11th of 24) and shot put (10.89 meters, ninth of 25).
 
Pre-Rutgers: Earned two letters in basketball, two in track and field and one in softball at Camden County College…In basketball, earned Region 19 Player of the Week and NJCAA National Player of the Week…Captured Second Team All-Region and Second Team All-Conference…Holds the school record for the most blocks… Won the Coaches Award…Over her two-year career, played in 51 games, starting 26 and averaging 8.1 points…Collected 413 points overall, averaging 5.7 as a freshman and 10.75 as a sophomore…In Track & Field, was a two-time All-America athlete in the shotput, the discus and the javelin…Captured the Coaches Award.
 
High School: Attended Sterling High School, where she earned four letters in track and field, while adding two letters apiece in basketball and volleyball…Was a two-time All-Conference First Team performer in track and field…Also was an All-Conference Second Team track and field athlete…Earned All-County First Team honors in indoor track…Earned All-Conference Second Team honors in volleyball…Graduated in the top 10 percent of her class in 2022.
 
Personal:  Born January 15, 2004…Hobbies and interests include reading, working out, and spending time with friends and family…Law, Government and Politics major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to attend law school and become a criminal defense attorney…Kayla is the daughter of Jeanne and John Franklin of Somerdale.
