Biography

Senior Carly Malia joined the Rutgers-Camden women’s cross country team during the fall semester and earned her first letter for the Scarlet Raptors. She added letters with the women’s indoor and outdoor track teams during the 2023-24 scholastic year. Academically, Malia added several honors in the classroom.
 
Malia previously competed in soccer and basketball with Rowan College of South Jersey.
 
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2023-24 scholastic year…Member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2023 Fall and 2024 Spring semesters…Dean’s List student.
 
Outdoor Track 2024: Competed in three meets, beginning with the Danny Curran Invitational (March 30), where she finished 49th of 58 in the 100-meter dash (a PR of 14.90) and 66th of 76 in the 200-meter dash (31.69)…Ran on the 4x100 relay team (58.54) that finished 16th of 16 at the Paul Donahue Invitational (April 20)…At the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 4-5), placed 28th of 30 at 200 meters (a PR of 30.94) on the opening day and with the 4x100 team (a PR of 55.80) to finish seventh of nine the second day.
 
Indoor Track 2023-24: Competed in five different events over six meets in the winter season…At the FastTrack Opener (Dec. 1) finished 10th of 22 in the 60-meter dash (9.28), 59th of 64 in the 200-meter dash (31.69) and 14th of 14 with the 4x400 team (4:53.18)…Ran three events and had a pair of PR times at the Bow-Tie Invitational (Dec. 8), finishing 19th of 28 in the unseeded 60-meter dash (9.38), 50th of 64 in the 200-meter dash (a PR of 31.62) and fifth of 13 with the 4x400 relay team (a PR of 4:40.73)…Finished 24th of 28 in the 60-meter dash (9.37), 45th of 52 in the 200-meter dash (32.68) and 11th of 14 in the 4x400 (4:54.13) at the Collegeville Classic (Jan. 20)…Competed in the 4x400 for the only time, setting a PR of 1:17.52 while finishing 32nd of 36 at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 3), while also finishing seventh of 14 in the 4x200 (2:01.56)…Set her PR of 9.14 while finishing 81st of 91 in the 60-meter dash at the all-division FastTrack National Invite (Feb. 9)… At the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (Feb. 19), finished eighth of eight teams while running the 4x200, setting a PR of 2:00.73.
 
Cross Country 2023: Ran in five 6K meets during her first season with the cross country program…Made her debut at the season-opening Osprey Open (Sept. 16), finishing sixth on the Raptors and 126th of 133 overall in a time of 37:01.2…Placed fourth on the Raptors and 60th of 74 overall at the Dan Talbot Open (Sept. 29) with a 36:47.19 clocking…Posted her PR of 33:16.1 at the Border Battle (Oct. 14), finishing fourth on the team and 67th of 81 overall…Placed fifth on the Raptors and 77th of 91 overall in a time of 36:25.32 at the Last Chance Run Fast meet (Oct. 20)…Posted her second-best time of the fall (34:56.5) to finish fifth on the team and 87th of 102 overall and the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (Oct. 28).
 
Pre-Rutgers: Played two seasons of soccer and basketball for Rowan College of South Jersey…Earned the Coaches Award in basketball as a RCSJ freshman.
 
High School: Multi-sport star at Gloucester County Christian School who earned 16 varsity letters, playing soccer, basketball, softball and track and field all four years…Named a tournament MVP in soccer during her sophomore and junior year for Coach Don Groot…Named Most Improved in basketball as a junior and earned the John Wooden Award as a senior for Coach Bill Capel…Member of the American Christian Honor Society…Graduated in 2019.
 
Personal: Born May 19, 2000…Hobbies and interests include a passion for all sports. “Painting/drawing is something I like to do to relax, and I love going on mission trips with my church to help in other countries when needed”…Nursing major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to take the NCLEX exam after graduation and become a pediatric nurse…Also hopes to remain involved in sports, maybe as a youth basketball coach on the side…Carly is the daughter of Lisa Malia of Glassboro.
