Biography
Imani Johnson-Young helped to set a Rutgers-Camden indoor track program record during her first season of collegiate competition as a member of the 2019-20 indoor team. After a few years without track, including seasons cancelled due to the pandemic, she returns to the indoor program this winter.
Program records (through 2021-22): Indoor Track – 4x200 (1:53.39) at the ECAC Championships (March 6, 2020) with Kaila English, Lizette Abah and Kayana Clue.

Indoor Track 2019-20: Competed in five meets in five different events…As part of the Scarlet Raptors’ 4x200 relay team at the ECAC Championships (March 6), helped to set a Rutgers-Camden program record with a 1:53.39 clocking, while finishing fifth of seven…Made her collegiate debut at the Fastrack Season Opener (Dec. 6), running her PR times of 8:42 in the 60-meter dash (43rd of 63) and 28.49 in the 200-meter dash (32nd of 55)…Finished 24th of 50 in the 60-meter dash (8.51) at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout (Dec. 13), while setting a PR in both the 300-meter dash (48.93, tying for 34th out of 46) and with the sprint medley team (4:54.19, ninth of 11)…Ran an 8.86 time in the 60-meter dash (19th of 37) and also competed on the 4x200 team for the first time (2:02.09, seventh of eight) at the Susquehanna Invitational (Feb. 15)…Placed sixth of eight teams with the 4x200 relay squad at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (Feb. 24).
High School: Track star at Newark Collegiate Academy who was an eight-time State Champion and County Champion…Two-time 55-meter dash Sectionals and Groups champion…100-meter Dash Sectional champion…Three-time 200-meter Dash champion who set the school’s program record with a 26.02 clocking…Two-time 4x100 Relay Sectionals and Groups champion…Named Most Valuable Player with the indoor track and field team…Cum Laude in high school, maintaining a 3.33 GPA…Graduated in 2019.
Personal: Born March 24, 2001…Nicknamed “Mani”…Dual Political Science and Childhood Studies major…Plans to become a Dean or Principal and then move into politics and work in the White House…Imani is the daughter of Sheena Johnson and Derell Young of Newark.
