Avionne Sloan joins the Rutgers University-Camden track program for the 2024-25 season, where she will serve as an assistant sprint coach.
 
Sloan was an elite runner at Camden High School and with the Camden Elite and United Stars club teams. She achieved her personal best of 24.3 in the 200-meter dash set a New Jersey state meet record in 2006 at the Junior Olympic track and field championships. Her 24.48 clocking at the Nike Outdoor Nationals ranked eighth and she ran a 24.8 at the New Jersey Meet of Champions to place third overall.
 
During the 2004 indoor season, Sloan ran a personal best of 24.9 to tie a record set by Tawana Watkins in 2001.
 
Sloan was a three-time 400-meter conference champion and a two-time 200-meter Olympic Conference champion for the Panthers, who still holds the school record at 400 meters. She set a New Jersey record with a time of 55.23 in the 400-meter dash and was part of the All-New Jersey State 4x400 team which posted a time of 3:47 with her split time of 53.9. She also was a member of the All-American 4x400 sprint medley team with a split pf 53/95/  She ran a personal best of 54.9 in the 400-meter dash during outdoor season and placed at the Nike Indoor Nationals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.3.
 
At the Camden High School meet in 2006, she placed first at 800 meters with a time of 2:15 and followed with a split time of 2:10 in the 4x800 at West Deptford.
 
Sloan has been a Nike Outdoor All-American in the 4x400 and 800 medley, an All-State Group 3 performer at 400 meters, a two-time All-South Jersey honoree from the Courier-Post newspaper and was a part of the South Jersey large school contingent at the Penn Relays, where she finished second with the 4x100 and 4x400 teams.
 
Following her brilliant scholastic career, Sloan attended Morgan State University, where she was a MEAC qualifier in the 400-meters and ECAC qualifier in 2009-10. She ran a personal best in the 500-meter dash of 1:14.8 at the ECAC meet and ran her season’s best of 24.4 in the 200-meter dash at Delaware State.
 
A four-time qualifier for the ECAC in the 400-meter dash, Sloan was a NCAA regional qualifier in the 400-meter dash, hosted at North Carolina A&T. She finished second in the MEAC Outdoor Conference Championships with a time of 54.5 at 400 meters and also was a part of team records at Morgan State.
 
During her 2007-08 season, she placed as a MEAC qualifier and qualifier at the ECAC Championships running on the winning 4x400 relay team (3:43. She also won the ECAC section of the 4x400 relay at the Penn Relays with a season- and conference best time of 3:39.89.
 
A Physical Education major at Morgan State, she is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Sports Administration from Arkansas State University.
 
Sloan has always returned to Camden High School to assist with the girls’ track team, working with Head Coach Avis Satterfield. She currently is the Head Coach at Eastside High School in Camden and the Speed Coordinator for the football team.
 
A Camden resident, she enjoys spending time with her children, shopping, cooking, reading, traveling and football.
