Former West Deptford High School star Steve Mitchell joined the Rutgers-Camden coaching staff during the 2014-15 scholastic year, where he wasreunited with his former scholastic coach Mark Drummond. Mitchell, who previously coached at West Deptford, returns to Rutgers-Camden for his third year this season, where he will continue his work with the Scarlet Raptors’ sprinters and hurdlers.
 
During his senior season at West Deptford High School, Mitchell captured the 2008 New Jersey Group 3 state championship in the 110-meter hurdles. The Eagles’ program record-holder in the high hurdles with a 14.26 clocking, he ran everything from the 55-meter dash to the 400-meter hurdles at West Deptford. He also competed in the triple jump and the long jump.
 
Mitchell continued his athletic and academic career at Gwynedd Mercy University, graduating in 2013 with a degree in Business Administration. At one time, he held the Gwynedd Mercy program records for the 55-, 60- and 110-meter hurdles.
 
During his first season coaching at West Deptford High School, Mitchell helped the 2014 outdoor team capture the state championship.
