One of Rutgers-Camden’s top student-athletes, Courtney Childress has captured three letters apiece on the Scarlet Raptors’ indoor and outdoor track teams, has been a two-year cross country letterwinner and has received numerous academic honors. The program’s indoor track record-holder at 600 meters, she was named the Most Dedicated Athlete on the women’s outdoor track team as a freshman in 2016. During the fall semester in 2016, she added Most Dedicated Athlete honors with the cross country program.
Childress has been named to the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll during five of her six semesters at the university, has been named to both the New Jersey Athletic Conference and the ECAC Academic Honor Rolls and has been a member of the Rutgers-Camden Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She also has been on the ballots for the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area program and the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District 2 program.

Outdoor Track 2018: NJAC Academic Honorable Mention and ECAC Spring Semester Academic Honor Roll…Competed in four meets, mainly in the 400-meter dash…At the Oscar Moore Open (April 6), ran her lone 800-meter race of the spring, placing 11th of 13 (2:56.35)…Posted a PR of 1:11.75 in the 400-meter dash at Gwynedd Mercy’s Mid-Week Twilight Invitational (April 11), finishing 21st of 25…Was 68th of 70 at 400 meters (1:11.76) at the Widener Invitational (April 21)…Closed her season at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 5), finishing 18th of 19 at 400 meters (1:13.11).
Indoor Track 2017-18: Competed in four meets in four different events, including the 800-meter run on three occasions…Established a PR at 500 meters (1:32.62 in the Fast Times Before Finals meet (Dec. 9), finishing 38th of 44…Ran both the 800 meters (3:02.46, 34th of 44) and the mile (7:08.11, 31st of 37) at the Collegeville Classic (Jan. 20)…Finished 35th of 47 at 800 meters (2:54.40) at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 3)…placed 13th of 16 at 800 meters (2:49.02) at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 19), while also setting a PR of 4:50.49 in the 4x400 (eighth of eight).
Cross Country 2017: Competed in six fall invitationals, beginning with a 5K at Wilmington (Sept. 2) when she set her personal best time of 27:31.66 at that distance, finishing fourth on the team and 24th of 34 overall…Posted a 31:09.46 clocking in her first 6K race of the season, finishing 100th of 152 overall and fourth on the Scarlet Raptors at the NJAIAW Championships (Sept. 23)…Was fourth on the team and 43rd of 82 (31:02.5) at the Jack Saint Clair Memorial race (Oct. 7)…Placed fourth again on the Raptors and 216th of 239 *28:13.1) at the Inter-Regional Border Battle (Oct. 14)…Finished sixth on the team and 81st of 100 (30:18.50) at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (Oct. 28)…Closed the fall season at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals (Nov. 11), placing 269th overall of 285 runners and sixth on the Rutgers-Camden team in a time of 31:11.5.
Outdoor Track 2017: Competed at five meets in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs…Also ran the third leg of the 4x400 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 7), helping the team finish sixth of eight with a 4:22.15 clocking…At that NJAC meet she placed 25th of 29 at 800 meters (2:45.05) and 22nd of 28 at 1,500 meters (a personal best 5:43.52)…Opened the season at the Golden Ram Invitational (March 25) finishing 23rd of 29 at 800 meters (2:47.36) and 19th of 29 at 1,500 meters (6:02.83)…Placed 11th of 15 at 800 meters (2:55.74) and 14th of 18 at 1,500 meters (6:05.45) at the Stockton Invitational (April 1) and was fifth of eight in the 800 (2:46.23) and 10th of 16 at 1,500 meters (5:52.04) at the Oscar Moore Open (April 8)…In her last meet before the NJAC Championships, finished 73rd of 88 at 800 meters (2:50.95) and 83rd of 93 at 1,500 meters (5:56.88) at the Widener Invitational (April 22).
Indoor Track 2016-17: Competed at six invitationals, running 800 meters and the mile (four times apiece), while adding one race apiece at 600, 1,000 and 3,000 meters…Opened the indoor season at the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 3) with a busy meet that included the 800-meter run (2:48.31, finishing sixth of 18), the mile (15th of 24, 6:36.73) and the 3,000 meters (fifth of seven, 13:20.28)…Competed in the mile (24th of 28, 6:29.24) and 600 meters (a program record 1:53.82, finishing 24th of 28)…Placed 36th of 51 at 800 meters (2:50.85) at the Collegeville Classic (Jan. 21)…Notched a personal best 3:37.24 clocking at 1,000 meters to finish second of seven at the Widener Field Meet (Jan. 27)…Also placed fifth of 10 in the mile (6:33.95) at Widener…Finished 43rd of 66 at 800 meters (2:47.75) and 29th of 42 in the mile (a personal best 6:21.95) at the St. Joseph’s College Invitational (Feb. 11)…At the NJAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 20), finished 14th of 20 at 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:41.89.
Cross Country 2016: Ran in all eight invitationals during her first season with the Rutgers-Camden cross country team…Finished second on the team three times and third on the other five occasions…Opened the season in a pair of 5K events, finishing third on the Raptors at both the Bryn Mawr Invitational Sept. 1 (27:37.8, 70th of 92 overall) and the Philadelphia Metropolitan meet Sept. 10 (29:25.7, 60th of 82)…In her first two 6K races, also finished third on the team while posting times of 31:23.32 at the Bill Fritz/Charlie Way Invitational Sept. 17 (120th of 148 overall) and a 31:34.46 clocking at the NJAIAW Championships Sept. 24 (158th of 190)…Placed second on the team and 96th of 160 overall at the 6K Jack Saint Clair Memorial Oct. 8, posting a 30:10.2 time…Ran a 28:05.2 6K race at the Inter-Regional Border Battle Oct. 15, finishing second on the team and 357th of 386 overall…Finished 70th of 89 overall and second on the Raptors at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships Oct. 29 (27:59.32)…Posted her best 6K time of the season, 27:21.9, at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals Nov. 12, placing third on the team and 262nd of 304 overall.
Outdoor Track 2016: Competed at 800 meters in six meets, setting her personal best of 2:35.02 while finishing 48th of 88 runners at the Widener Invitational (April 23)…Named the team’s Most Dedicated athlete…Opened the season with a 2:47.91 time while finishing 25th of 43 at 800 meters in the Stockton Invitational (March 26)…Placed seventh of 15 in the event (2:35.33) at the Oscar Moore Open (April 1)…Notched a time of 2:40.12 to finish eighth of 24 at the Osprey Open (April 9)…Finished 53rd of 75 at the Greyhound Invitational (April 16) with an 800-meter time of 2:35.54…Finished 16th of 31 at 800 meters (2:35.69) at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship (May 8).
Indoor Track 2015-16: Competed at 800 meters for the Raptors, making her collegiate debut at the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 5) with a 2:59.49 time to place 33rd of 39 athletes…Notched a 2:48.38 time (converted to 2:50.32 to allow for the banked track) to finish 40th of 53 runners at the Ramapo College Indoor Select (Jan. 30)…Finished seventh of 15 at 800 meters in the Albright Invitational (Feb. 13), posting a time of 2:49.908, which improved to 2:48.25 to account for the short track conversion…Notched her best 800-meter time of 2:42.91 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship (Feb. 22), finishing 17th of 21.
Pre-Rutgers: Attended Stockton University for a year, but wasn’t a member of the Ospreys’ track team.
High School: Graduated from Deptford High School in 2014…Earned varsity letters in wrestling, soccer and track and field...Ran track for Coach Patrick Landis.
Personal: Born July 9, 1996… Enjoys running, powerlifting and attending concerts and music festivals…Psychology and Criminal Justice dual major with a minor in Legal Studies…Following graduation, she hopes to get a law enforcement job and “travel to as many places as I can”…Courtney is the daughter of John and Valerie Childress of Deptford.
