Rutgers-Camden Athletics

One of several good, young throwers in the Rutgers-Camden track & field program, Makenzie Martorano returns for her second season with the outdoor team after earning her second letter indoors over the winter.
 
Indoor Track 2014-15: Competed in the shot put competition at six meets…Added the weight throw to her work load, competing in that event three times…Posted a shot put of 9.46 meters (31-0.50) at the season-opening Bow Tie Classic (Dec. 6) to finish 12th of 37…Was third of six shot putters (9.68 meters/31-9.25) at the MAC Classic (Dec. 14)…Placed 22nd of 38 shot putters (9.37 M/30-9.00) and was 24th of 24 in her first weight throw (6.40 M/21-0.0) at the St. Joseph’s Invitational (Jan. 17)…Finished ninth of 24 in the shot put at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 7) with a put of 9.36 meters (30-8.50)…Placed fifth of 17 shot putters (9.23 M/30-3.50) and seventh of eight in the weight throw (a personal best 9.39 M/27-6.50) at the Albright Invitational (Feb. 14)…Competed in both events at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship (Feb. 26), finishing 20th of 24 in the shot put (9.68 M/31-9.25 to tie her season best) and 18th of 22 in the weight throw (6.70 M/21-11.0).
 
Outdoor Track 2014: Competed in six invitationals in the shot put…Also threw the discus at four meets and the hammer at two invitationals…Consistently placed among the top athletes in the shot put, including her spring season opener, when she finished eighth of 25 (9.77 meters) at the Stockton Invitational (March 22)…Competed in all three events at the Osprey Open (April 5), finishing 12th of 26 in the shot put (9.83 meters), 16th of 21 in the discus (19.18 meters) and ninth of 12 (16.99 meters) in her first hammer competition…Notched her personal best in the shot put of 9.96 meters to place 15th of 51 at the New Jersey Invitational (April 12)…Set a personal best of 20.57 meters in the hammer at the Widener Invitational (April 19)…Notched her PB of 20.97 meters in the discus at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (May 4), while also recording a shot put of 9.53 meters.
 
Indoor Track 2013-14: Made her collegiate debut at the Haverford Invitational (Dec. 14) and finished third of 12 in the shot put (9.92 meters)…Also competed in three other invitationals, beginning with the Blue-White Invitational (Jan. 11) where she set a personal best of 10.10 meters while finishing seventh of 13 in the shot put…Placed 12th of 28 in the shot at the LVC Invitational (Jan. 25, 9.73 meters) and 17th of 25 (10.02 meters) at the NJAC Championships (March 1).
 
High School: Captured four varsity track and field letters at Highland Regional High School under coaches Tom Ajderian and Beth Marks…Camden County shot put champion…Unsung Hero award…Varsity Academic Award.
 
Personal: Born April 26, 1995…Superstitions include always keeping her hair in a braid when she throws…Future plans include becoming a high school throwing coach…Makenzie is the daughter of Lisa and David Martorano of Laurel Springs.
