Biography

Shontiana Butcher captured a pair of Rutgers-Camden track letters and added honors as the Most Dedicated athlete on the women’s indoor program during her freshman year in college. The Scarlet Raptors’ top sprinter during the 2015-16 scholastic year, she returned for her sophomore indoor and outdoor seasons during the 2016-17 scholastic year.
 
An outstanding student as well, she was a member of the inaugural Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (Fall 2015 semester) and added berths on that academic team for both the 2016 Spring and Fall semesters.
 
2912Indoor Track 2016-17: Competed at four indoor meets, while helping the Scarlet Raptors set program relay records each time…At the Wagner Seahawk Shootout (Dec. 9), ran the leadoff leg of the 1600 Spring Medley team which finished sixth of seven with a program record 4:47.52 clocking…Also finished 25th of 34 in the 60-meter dash (8.72) and 53rd of 72 in the 300-meter dash (46.99), setting a pair of personal bests…Finished sixth of 14 in the 200-meter dash (30.27) and ran the second leg of the program record-setting 4x160 relay team (1:32.67), which finished first of three at the Widener Field Meet (Jan. 27)…At the St. Joseph’s College Invitational (Feb. 11), placed 37th of 55 at 60 meters (8.97), 55th of 82 at 200 meters (2:9.95) and ran the third leg on the record-setting 4x200 team (1:58.36), which finished 10th of 12…Helped break that short-lived 4x200 record with a 1:55.80 clocking while running the third leg at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship (Feb. 20), finishing sixth of six…Also finished 16th of 21 in the 60-meter dash (8.78) and 20th of 26 in the 200-meter dash (a personal best of 29.69) at the NJAC meet.
 
Outdoor Track 2016: Competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes three times apiece over four outdoor meets…Opened the season placing 12th of 22 in the 100-meter dash (14.27) and 14th of 19 at 200 meters (30.0) at the Stockton Invitational (March 26)…Placed 17th of 30 at 100 meters (14.65) at the Osprey Open (April 9)…Ran personal bests at both 100 meters (14.10, finishing 63rd of 70) and 200 meters (29.22, 78th of 84) at the Greyhound Invitational (April 16)…Raced in the 200-meter dash at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May 8), finishing 22nd of 27 in a clocking of 29.93.
 
Indoor Track 2015-16: Competed in six invitationals, running at distances from 55 meters (once), 60 meters (three times), 200 meters (six times) and 400 meters (twice)…Earned honors as the Most Dedicated athlete on the women’s indoor team…Notched her top 600-meter time of 8.91 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 22), finishing 17th of 18…Posted a time of 29.97 on the banked track at the Ramapo College Indoor Select meet (Jan. 30) to finish 38th of 54 athletes…That time converts to 30.43 to account for the banked track for NCAA purposes…On a flat track, notched a 30.05 200-meter clocking at the NJAC meet to finish 23rd of 26 athletes…Collected her best 400-meter time with a 1:13.54 at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 6), finishing 29th of 31…Opened her collegiate career at the Bow-Tie Classic (Dec. 5), running a 9.39 in the 60-meter dash (36th of 45) and a 30.84 at 200 meters (25th of 43)…In addition to her 400-meter performance at the Frank Colden Invitational, also competed in the 60-meter dash (32nd of 46, 9.00) and the 200-meter dash (39th of 49 (31.00)…Ran both the 55-meter dash (8.91, ninth of 16) and the 200-meter dash (sixth of 12, 32.01, converted to 31.69 on the undersized track) at the Albright Invitational (Feb. 13).
 
High School: Graduated from Hammonton High School in 2015…Earned a varsity letter in spring track as a senior, running for Coach Michele Woloski…National Honor Society…Honor Roll student, 2012-2015.
 
Personal: Born December 3, 1996…Interested in music…Nursing major at Rutgers-Camden, planning a career in that field…Shontiana is the daughter of Shanika Smith of Williamstown.
