A former member of the La Salle University women’s crew team, Justine Philyaw joined the program’s coaching staff during the 2011 fall season and was named the head women's coach during the summer of 2013.

Philyaw was a 4-year member of the Women's Crew Team while at La Salle. As a freshmen, she rowed in a novice 8+ that won a gold medal at the Frostbite Regatta, and as a junior, she rowed in a women's varsity lightweight 8+ that made it to the finals of the Dad Vail regatta.

In 2003, Philyaw earned a Masters of Arts from Rutgers-Camden and then started rowing with the Rutgers Alumni Crew Team. She currently serves as the Co-President of the Rutgers Alumni Crew Club in Camden.

In addition to coaching and rowing, Justine is an English teacher at Prep Charter High School in Philadelphia.
