Brandon Whittington returns to the Rutgers-Camden softball coaching staff in 2017. Whittington made a major contribution to the Scarlet Raptors’ success during his first season in 2015 and continued that success during the 2016 campaign. In charge of conditioning for the Scarlet Raptors, Whittington’s training helped the Raptors post a 21-13-1 record in 2015, their best mark since going 31-15 in 2007. They added a 21-19 mark in 2016 and have made the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs both seasons.
A former All-South Jersey football player who also played basketball at Collingswood High School, Whittington went on to earn four collegiate football letters as a scholarship player at Purdue University. During his time at Purdue, the Boilermakers went to three bowl games (the Sun Bowl in 2004, the Champs Sports Bowl in 2006 and the Motor City Bowl in 2007) and he earned Academic All-Big Ten Football Honors.
Whittington, who majored in Retail Management with the School of Consumer and Family Sciences, graduated from Purdue in December 2008 and has since been active as a coach and a trainer back in South Jersey.
A Certified Crossfit Level 1 Trainer, he is proficient in Olympic weightlifting, speed and agility training and high intensity cross training. He has been a trainer at Crossfit Cetro since 2012, where he does everything from leading classes and developing workout programs to assisting with nutrition, diet and cleansing programs and marketing and advertising.
Whittington also serves as an assistant boys’ basketball coach and as the head strength and conditioning coach for basketball at Paul VI High School in Haddon Township.
Whittington, who resides in Collingswood, also has been a volunteer coach for the Lafayette Jefferson High School football program while he was in Indiana, and serves in that same capacity with the Collingswood High School football program. A Little League baseball umpire as well, his community service also includes participating in the Gentle Giants Reading program and Red Cross Blood Drives.
