Mike Medrick returns for his seventh season with the Rutgers University-Camden softball program. He joined the staff during the 2008 campaign under first-year Lady Raptors Head Coach Brian Wolverton and has played a big role in the revival of the Lady Raptors’ program, which included the 2009 ECAC Metro championship.

With over 20 years of softball coaching experience, Medrick is well known in softball coaching circles. He built the teams at Cherokee High School and Lenape High School into two of the most respected softball programs in the state, and he also has had quite an impact on the number and quality of players in the South Jersey area.

As the head coach at Cherokee for 17 years, Medrick accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments, including 14 league titles, nine Group 4 South Jersey titles, six Hammonton Tournament championships and an unprecedented five Group 4 state titles, coming in 1988, 1994, 1996, 2001 and 2003.

With an overall Cherokee record of 396-80, Medrick collected numerous “Coach of the Year” recognition awards from area newspapers and softball-affiliated organizations. In addition, Medrick’s 17-year stint with the Chiefs earned his program such titles as “#1 All-Area” three times, “#1 South Jersey” four times and “#1 in the state” four times. In 1996, Medrick was awarded the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Award of Honor for Softball.

Medrick became the head coach at Lenape High School in 2005 and in three years with the Indians he compiled a 54-23 record with two league titles.

Medrick’s involvement in softball extends far from the high school field. He not only has been the manager of the Burlington County entrant of the Women’s Softball Carpenter Cup for the past three years, but he also has been an instrumental part of South Jersey softball, working with countless camps, tournaments and clinics. Those programs include Jim Caputo’s “Play Like A Champ” softball camp, the Marlton and Mount Laurel Rec Council Softball Programs, and the NJSIAA softball-sponsored clinics. In many of those circumstances, Medrick served as director, instructor and mentor for over 20 years.

With academic backgrounds at Millersville University, West Chester State College and Trenton State College, Medrick has been able to assemble a Bachelor of Arts degree in Earth Science, a certification in Athletic Training and a Masters degree in Science Education. In addition to becoming a New Jersey state certified educator, Medrick also was certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and served as the head athletic trainer of Cherokee High School for 14 years, earning him the legendary local title of Mike “Doc” Medrick.

A retired chemistry teacher at Cherokee High School, Medrick and his wife Pamela reside in Glassboro. They look forward to future accomplishments and achievements within the Rutgers-Camden softball program, school and community.
