After transferring to Rutgers-Camden from Albright College, Jalene Garcia made an immediate impact on the Scarlet Raptors’ softball team in 2015. In addition to playing flawless defensive ball in right field, Garcia became a terrific table setter as the No. 2 hitter in the Rutgers-Camden lineup, hitting .318 with 29 runs scored. Her contributions helped the Scarlet Raptors post their best record (21-13-1 overall, 11-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference) since 2007.

Garcia continued to play a major role on the Scarlet Raptors as a junior in 2016, starting 34 of her 37 games, including 19 at shortstop, 12 in right field and three in left field. She was the Scarlet Raptors’ leadoff hitter in 20 of those starts.

In 94 career games between Rutgers-Camden and Albright, Garcia owns a .319 batting average (94-for-295), 67 runs, 20 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. A fine student as well, she was named to the inaugural Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (Fall 2015) and also added honors for the Spring 2016 semester.

Softball 2016: Played in 37 games, starting 34, including time at both shortstop and right field…Hit .282 (31-for-110) with 18 runs, one double and three RBIs…Had a .291 slugging percentage and a .313 on-base percentage…Drew four walks and was hit by one pitch…Tied for second on the team with seven stolen bases…Had an overall .918 fielding percentage while bouncing between shortstop and the outfield, including 50 putouts and 28 assists…Had a .381 on-base percentage as a leadoff batter (16-for-42) and a .467 percentage advancing runners (21-for-45)…Collected six multiple-hit games, including a 4-for-4 day with four runs, one RBI and a stolen base in the nightcap of a New Jersey City University doubleheader (April 30)…In the opening game, went 2-for-3 with one run, two RBIs and a double…Opened the season with a hit in her first three games…Went 8-for-14 (571) in her last four games of the season, in which she had her season-high four-game hitting streak…Went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Penn State-Abington (March 24)…Had her season high of five assists in the season opener against Shenandoah University (March 5), while playing shortstop…Had four putouts and four assists at shortstop in the second game of a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark (April 2)…Notched five putouts and two assists at shortstop against both Kean University (April 10, Game One) and Rowan University (April 19, Game One)…Had five putouts in right field in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Ursinus College (April 24).

Softball 2015: Started all 35 of the Scarlet Raptors’ games, one of five players to do so…Finished fourth on the team in batting (.318) and second in both runs scored (29) and walks (14)…Third on the team in stolen bases with 14 (in 15 attempts)…Posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in right field, with 53 putouts and two assists in 55 chances…Her .400 on-base percentage ranked second on the team…Added a .345 slugging percentage, with one double and one triple…Collected 14 RBIs to finish fifth on the team…After going hitless (0-for-3) in her Rutgers-Camden debut against Lynchburg College (March 13), immediately went on a five-game hitting streak (7-for-7-for-14, .500), which was capped March 17 against Eureka College when she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, a stolen base and a walk…After that hitting streak was snapped, she started an eight-game streak (March 20-April 1), going 12-for-31 (387) with 11 runs…Scored three runs against both York College (March 20) and Rutgers-Newark (March 29, Game One) during that streak, while collecting four two-hit games…Also had four-game hitting streaks from April 7-9 (7-for-14, .500) and from April 11-16 (6-for-13, .462)…Went a combined 5-for-7 with three runs and two RBIs against Arcadia University in an April 9 doubleheader, including 3-for-5 in the nightcap…Went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Rowan University (April 14)…Went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs in the second game of an April 25 doubleheader at New Jersey City University.
