Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Sammie Friel captured numerous honors during her first collegiate season with the Rutgers-Camden softball program, which she capped by earning New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and NJAC Second Team honors. The southpaw pitcher also earned a pair of academic honors during her freshman year.

Softball 2024: Appeared in 22 games, starting 20…Had 11 complete games, including four shutouts…Added one save…Led the Raptors with 110-2/3 innings pitched and 107 strikeouts…Posted a 9-10 record and a 2.72 ERA…Allowed 88 hits and 59 runs, 43 of them earned…Walked 42 and hit 22 batters…Named New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year…Captured NJAC Second Team honors…Two-time NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week (April 1 and April 15)…Earned Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week (April 15)…Held righthanded hitters to a paltry .199 batting average (72-for-362)…Made her collegiate debut March 9 against the Wentworth Institute of Technology, allowing 10 hits, three walks and six earned runs in 2-1/3 innings without a decision…Earned her first win and shutout on March 10 in a 9-0 victory over Plymouth State, throwing a one-hitter with three walks and nine strikeouts…Lost a 4-0 decision March 12 against Lakeland University, allowing six hits, three walks and four runs (three earned), while striking out one…Hurled an 8-0 three-hit shutout over St. Norbert (March 15) in a five-inning game, walking one and striking out two…Lost a tough 2-0 decision in a complete game six-hitter against Alvernia (Game One, March 19), walking five and striking out 11 while allowing two earned runs…Hurled a one-hitter in a 7-3 victory over Albright (Game Two, March 21), allowing six walks, striking out seven and surrendering three unearned runs…Notched a save with two shutout, no-hit innings in a 1-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy (Game Two, March 26), walking two and striking out four…Earned a 2-1 win over New Jesey City (Game Two, March 30), allowing two hits and one earned run in a complete game, while striking out six and not allowing a walk…Beat Montclair State (Game One, April 6) with a four-hitter, allowing two walks and one earned run in a 2-1 win, while striking out six…Suffered a 3-0 loss against Ramapo (Game One, April 7), allowing four hits, two walks and two earned runs in six innings, while fanning seven…Posted a 1-0 win at The College of New Jersey (Game One, April 9), hurling a four-hit shutout with two walks and three strikeouts…Blanked Kean, 1-0, (Game One, April 13) with a one-hitter, two walks and seven strikeouts…Took the loss in a 6-2 decision against Stockton (Game One, April 16) despite allowing only one hit and one earned run in two innings, while striking out two…Beat William Paterson (Game One, April 20), 6-2, with a two-hitter, allowing two earned runs and one walk, while striking out nine…Posted a 2-1 victory in a four-hitter against Rutgers-Newark (Game One, April 27), allowing one walk and one unearned run, while striking out six…Notched her highs of three putouts against Lakeland (March 12) and four assists against New Jersey City (Game Two, March 30).
 
High School: Earned three varsity softball letters at Cherokee High School for Coach Mary Madgey…Captured All-Conference First Team honors during both her junior and senior seasons…Graduated in 2023.
