Biography

Halfway through her collegiate career, Sammie Friel ranks among the program’s all-time pitching leaders in numerous categories. She is tied for seventh in shutouts (5), is ninth in strikeouts (182), 11th in games started (36) and opponent batting average (.265), 14th in both at bats (747) and batters faced (914), 15th in appearances (39), 16th in innings pitched (189) and 18th in ERA (3.96).
 
As a freshman, Friel earned New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and NJAC Second Team honors. She also has captured many academic honors during her career.
 
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2024-25 scholastic year…Member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2023 Fall, 2024 Spring, 2024 Fall and 2025 Spring semesters…Dean’s List student.
 
Softball 2025: Appeared in 17 games, making 16 starts and one relief appearance…Led the team in starts, innings (78.1) and strikeouts (75), while tying for the team lead with four complete games and one shutout…Posted a 1-14 record and a 5.72 ERA…Had a perfect fielding percentage with one putout and 18 assists in 19 chances…Worked 3.0 innings in a season-opening start against Oneonta (Feb. 25) and suffered a tough 3-0 loss despite allowing only five hit and two runs (only one earned), while walking one and striking out three…Hurled 6.1 innings in a tough 2-1 loss against Alvernia (March 11, Game 2), allowing two earned runs, walking four and striking out five…Struck out nine batters over five innings in a 6-5 loss against Wesleyan (March 15)…Earned her lone win with a dominating complete-game 3-0 shutout against Montclair State (April 5, Game 1), allowing five hits and no walks, while striking out seven…Had a complete game in a 4-1 loss against The College of New Jersey (April 9, Game 2), allowing just three earned runs while fanning her season high of 11 batters.
