One of the top pitchers in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and in Rutgers-Camden program history, Sarah Byrnes has fashioned a 2.02 career ERA during her Scarlet Raptor career, the fifth-best mark for all pitchers with the minimum of 100 innings pitched.

Byrnes, who was a NJAC First Team player in 2021, ranks sixth among the Raptors’ all-time career pitching leaders in games started (48), complete games (36), innings pitched (298), at bats (1,165) and strikeouts (233). She is seventh in pitching appearances (51), ninth in opponent batting average (.255) and tied for ninth in wins (18).

A transfer student who previously pitched at NJAC rival William Paterson University, Byrnes was named the Scarlet Raptors’ team Most Valuable Player in her first year at Rutgers-Camden in 2019.

Softball 2020: Started all four Raptor games…Hurled her first two Rutgers-Camden shutouts…Worked 21 innings, allowing 16 hits, seven walks and three earned runs for a 1.00 ERA…Struck out 25 batters and held opponents to a .222 batting average…Named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week (March 16) after pitching her second shutout of the season…Opened the season with a six-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over SUNY-New Paltz (March 8), walking three and striking out 10…Also worked six innings in the nightcap, sandwiched around a stint by freshman Rachel White, allowing four hits, two walks and two earned runs, while collecting seven strikeouts…In a doubleheader sweep over Gwynedd Mercy (March 10), hurled a four-hit shutout, with one walk and eight strikeouts, in a 4-0 win in the opener, earning her NJAC Pitcher of the Week honor…Worked one inning of the nightcap…Offensively, hit .200 (2-for-10) and collected her lone RBI in the second Gwynedd Mercy game…Collected one putout and four assists to compile a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage for the season.
