Former Rutgers-Camden men’s soccer player Joel Ono joins the women’s program this season, where he will serve as an assistant coach.
A three-year letterman with the Rutgers-Camden men’s soccer program, the midfielder appeared in 34 games for the Scarlet Raptors, collecting two assists.

Ono was a member of the first New Jersey Athletic Conference championship team in program history during his final season in 2011, playing in 17 games and collecting two assists. He
assisted on a goal by Curtis Osusky in a 3-0 win over North Carolina Wesleyan (Sept. 11) and assisted Taylor McGrory’s goal in a 3-2 victory over Catholic University (Sept. 19). He contributed to nine of the Raptors’ 11 shutouts and helped Rutgers-Camden post a record of 19-3-2, at that time the best mark in program history. The Scarlet Raptors advanced to the Elite Eight round in the NCAA Tournament before their season ended with a 2-1 double-overtime loss against Oneonta (Nov. 20). Ono played his season high of 65 minutes in that contest.
During the 2010 season, Ono appeared in nine games, helping the Raptors post a 6-2-1 record in that span, and contributed to three of the Raptors’ six shutouts. As a freshman in 2009, he appeared in eight games, including his collegiate debut Sept. 5 against 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at the Fred Myers Invitational. He played in four of the team’s six shutouts during the season.
A two-sport letterman at Cumberland Regional High School, Ono earned three soccer letters for Coach Roy Morales and two baseball letters for Coach Rich Husted. During his senior season with the Colts in 2008, he captured Tri-County Conference Royal Division First Team honors in soccer and added SJSCA (South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association) South Sectional All-State Honorable Mention. He earned Tri-County Conference Royal Division Honorable Mention as a junior during 2007 soccer season.
Ono, who followed his brother James as a member of the Scarlet Raptors’ soccer program, is a Mathematics major at Rutgers-Camden. He will graduate in May, 2015.
