Biography

2237One of the Scarlet Raptors’ four team captains in 2014, Kelsey Tierney was enjoying another banner year before injuries ended her season after 12 games. She returns to the soccer pitch for her third season at Rutgers-Camden this fall, where she will serve as one of the Scarlet Raptors’ co-captains.
 
A transfer from Iona College, Tierney earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention recognition in her first year at Rutgers-Camden in 2013 and added NJAC Academic Honorable Mention in 2014. She has started all of her 26 games at Rutgers-Camden, collecting one goal for two points, while contributing to 10 of the 14 Raptor shutouts during that span.
 
Soccer 2014: Started all 12 of her games…Took six shots, three on goal…Helped team post five shutouts before missing the remainder of the season – and two shutouts – due to injuries…Played all 110 minutes in a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Washington College (Sept. 17)…Played the entire 105 minutes in a 1-0 win over Widener (Sept. 11)…Also played the full 90 minutes in seven games…NJAC Academic Honorable Mention.
 
S2235occer 2013: Started all 14 of her games for the Scarlet Raptors…Collected one goal for two points…Took five shots, three on goal…Captured All-NJAC Honorable Mention recognition…Made her Raptor debut in a 2-1 loss to FDU-Florham (Aug. 31) at the FDU Classic…Played all 180 minutes in that tournament against both FDU-Florham and St. Joseph’s-Long Island (Sept. 1), the first two games of seven where she played the entire contest…Had a season-high 110 minutes in a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Moravian College (Oct. 16)…Scored her lone goal of the season and took a season-high three shots in an 8-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence College (Oct. 12)…Played in five of the Raptors’ seven shutouts and helped the young team post a 1.78 goals-against average.
 
2234Pre-Rutgers: Played in two games as a freshman defender at Iona College in 2012, making one start…Collegiate debut came with a start at the University of Hartford (Sept. 20), a 2-0 loss for the Gaels…Also played in a 4-0 loss at Loyola University (Sept. 28)…Dean’s List.
 
High School: Earned four soccer letters for Coach Elizabeth Lee at Absegami High School…Also earned one letter in swimming…Played in the South Jersey Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game in 2011…Named to the Press of Atlantic City’s All-Area First Team in 2010…Three-time All-Cape-Atlantic League American Division First Team honoree (sophomore, junior and senior seasons)…First Team All-South Jersey as a junior…Honorable Mention All-State and Second Team All-South Jersey as a senior…South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association Third Team as a sophomore in 2009…Earned All-Conference First Team swimming honors as a freshman.
 
Personal: Born August 28, 1994…Played club soccer with the NJSA 04 Storm (Atlantic United Airstorm)…Enjoys running, snowboarding, going to the beach, reading and taking her dog for walks…Childhood Studies major with a Psychology minor at Rutgers-Camden…Plans to become a teacher and soccer coach…Kelsey is the daughter of Jim and Karen Tierney of Galloway.
