2018 Women's Soccer Roster
Biography
As she heads into her fourth and final season with the Rutgers-Camden women’s soccer program, Melissa Peel continues to raise the bar for her impressive collegiate career.
During her junior season, Peel earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention after starting all 16 of the Scarlet Raptors’ games. She notched two goals, led the team with seven assists and finished third in scoring with 11 points. An outstanding student as well, she earned her second straight NJAC Academic Honorable Mention recognition and continued her string of recognition on the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with a pair of perfect 4.0 GPA semesters.
During her three-year collegiate career, Peel has played in 46 of the Scarlet Raptors’ 48 games, starting 42. She has started all 32 games for the last two seasons and career totals of three goals, 11 assists and 17 points.
Peel will serve as one of the Scarlet Raptors’ four captains this season.
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention, 2016-17 and 2017-18 scholastic years; Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll 2016 Spring, 2016 Fall, 2017 Spring, 2017 Fall and 2018 Spring semesters. During the 2017 Fall semester, she was one of only nine student-athletes on the 141-member AD Honor Roll to achieve a perfect 4.0. She was one of only 10 (out of 129) to achieve a 4.0 on the AD Honor Roll during the 2018 Spring semester.
Soccer 2017: New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention…Tied for second in the NJAC in assists per game (0.44) and tied for fourth in the conference in total assists (7)…Led the team with her seven assists…Added two goals and finished third on the squad with 11 points…Took 16 shots, nine on goal, for a .562 percentage…Collected one goal and one assist for three points in back-to-back games, a 6-4 loss to Widener University (Sept. 6) and a 2-1 win over Shenandoah University (Sept. 9)…Notched a pair of assists in a 5-1 win over Rosemont College (Sept. 13) and a 2-1 overtime victory against William Paterson University (Oct. 21)…Also had one assist against Lancaster Bible College in a 4-1 win (Oct. 4).
Soccer 2016: One of eight players to start all 16 games for the Scarlet Raptors…Tied for third on the team in scoring (five points)…Collected one goal and finished second on the team with three assists…Took 15 shots, seven on goal…Collected her first assist of the season on a goal by Rachel Fanrak during a 3-2 victory over Alvernia University (Sept. 7)…Had a hand in both goals during a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Newark (Sept. 17), assisting on Maggie Sande’s game-winning goal in the first half and adding an insurance goal for her first collegiate tally in the second half…Had one assist during a 3-2 overtime loss against New Jersey City University (Oct. 8), during which she played her season high of 94 minutes…Helped Rutgers-Camden post three shutouts and hold opponents to one goal on six other occasions.
Soccer 2015: Played in 14 games, making 10 starts…Notched one assist for one point…Took 12 shots, four on goal…Made career debut by playing 50 minutes in the season opener against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Sept. 3)…Played 36 minutes in a 4-1 win over Cabrini College (Sept. 4), taking her first two collegiate shots…After playing a role off the bench in her first three collegiate games, made her first start in a 3-2 win at Drew University (Sept. 13), and started nine of her remaining 10 games in the season…Collected her first collegiate point with an assist on Catherine Fiore’s goal during a 5-0 win at New Jersey City University (Oct. 20)…Started all four of the Scarlet Raptors’ shutouts during the season…Played all 110 minutes in a double-overtime 0-0 tie at Stockton University (Oct. 29).
High School: Captured four varsity soccer letters at Gloucester County Institute of Technology…National Honor Society.
Club Team: South Jersey Elite Barons.
Personal: Born June 18, 1997…Enjoys hiking, traveling and eating mac and cheese…Nursing major at Rutgers-Camden…Melissa is the daughter of Jeanette and Richard Peel of Gibbstown.
